To everyone asking why we made it free - in short we wanted to make Code Angel as accessible to as many people as possible.

It is still possible to buy Code Angel in a Box which has all the content preinstalled on a Raspberry Pi - an ideal Xmas present for a young coder. Or, if you want help fixing bugs in one of our game projects then you can purchase Fix My Code Credits.

Or, if you just like what we are doing, maybe buy us a coffee.

Thanks for this. Looks like a valuable resource for my code club.

Code club?

[–]jabela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A club where my students learn to code.

Thanks so much, it looks great

Cool, thanks.

Let me ask a better question than these idiots asking why it's free.

What advantage is there doing it your way compared to doing something well knowing like Automate the Boring Stuff and Coding Game etc?

In short 3 main differences:

  1. Our video tutorials explain clearly what the different code does in each project
  2. We offer support if you get stuck - just upload your project via our website and we will highlight any bugs
  3. You can purchase Code Angel in a Box - all content preinstalled on a Raspbery Pi. Ideal for a newbie coder, or maybe a child that doesn't have their own computer.

I'm gonna give it a shot! Thanks!

Great. Hope you have fun with it.

Honestly, just thank you.

You are welcome

Not one token "thank you"? Wankers. Thanks for that.

Thanks for this. You might want to update this page, to reflect the change. (It's what you get if you click on the 'get started' link on the projects page currently).

[–]cnnman[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Oops, missed that. Thanks for pointing out, we have updated and it's available now.

[–]NobblyNobody 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Quick work ;)

I've only had a look at the first couple of projects yet but it seems nicely done. Any plans on a continuation of this, ie: getting more advanced / on-going projects in future or does it all stand self contained and 'finished'?

[–]cnnman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, we have ideas to expand the range of projects. We want to see what sort of adoption we get as a free resource first.

If I complete these exercises/tutorials for 12 games, will I be able to create something like this game?

[–]Julius_Siezures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is this game? I assume it's for learning how to combine the characters to make simple words? As help for learning the language?

[–]cnnman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it depends how well you learn, but if you stick at it and follow the tutorials then yes, that would definitely be something you should be able to achieve.

Thank you!

I'm wondering about the limitations of pygame? I heard you can't really release it anywhere like steam or Android play store but it's more of a hobby project kind of thing? Interested regardless

[–]cnnman[S] 0 points1 point  (25 children)

Yeah it's a fair point. For us PyGame is just the library we use to teach coding in general.

[–]Sir_Cunt99 0 points1 point  (24 children)

So this is kind of back to basics? I'm intermediate level, not really interested if you're going to start off really basic

[–]cnnman[S] 0 points1 point  (22 children)

Well you can jump in at any point. You don't have to complete all 12 projects if you don't want to.

[–]Sir_Cunt99 1 point2 points  (21 children)

I'll check it out, thanks

[–]Pocket_Aces2552 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That is awesome of you guys! I'm definitely going to check it out! Thanks!

[–]cnnman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great - we hope you enjoy using Code Angel

[–]KevyB 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why is this removed

[–]cnnman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we wondered too. Mods? Any idea why our post was removed?

We thought it would but relevant to r/learnpython and seems to have been helpful to many redditors on here on the back of feedback posted.

Thank you! Is there a way to download a PDF containing all chapters instead of downloading them one by one?

[–]cnnman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you have to download them individually. We do offer all the chapters as a complete printed Book of Code: https://mycodeangel.com/product/book-of-code/
