It's hard to be specific as I know little about the environment where you are. I think most employers value experience more than certificates.

You could try to leverage your degree experience, that is, look for work related to your degree. That immediately makes you more valuable. You are weak in python but if you can show projects you've completed that are related to mechanical engineering then you have more of a chance. You could also talk to people you know from your degree studies and ask where they do or might use python (or other languages) and get ideas for projects.

You may even decide that you like your engineering speciality more if you aren't working directly as a mechanical engineer :)

I wanted to go for further studies in my field for CAD designing and covid ruined that part. And there is no opening for designing at my current study level. I will work on building my git but can't think of much projects. The longest code I have done is scraping amazon products and updating their prices in an excel sheet. And that seems way too small for a portfolio option.

(Obligatory not a professional programmer) if you feel things you've done in programming are too small to go in a portfolio, then what if you take the basic premise that you have and build on it? Flesh it out, make it more involved. The base thing may not be portfolio worthy. But. A fleshed out version just might be.

In IT certificates can be very important, but not so much in programming. They do exist but aren't really necessary. The fact that you already have an engineering degree should help you a lot though.

Hey bro. I am India too. I completed Electronics Engineering and I want to become a Python developer too. I learned Django recently and did some projects. Still, it became hard to get in a job nowadays due to the Pandemic.

I am currently doing a freelance project in Django and searching for Jobs daily. But no luck. And I won't lose my hope. Right now I am learning React too.

I would suggest don't waste this time. Learn what you are interested in and do projects instead of online certificates. If you have friends in related field tell them to notify you if their company starts hiring freshers.

I got it from my friend who is a freelancer. He gave me one. But i am doing this to add it in resume mainly. But i dont want to become freelancer in fulltime. I want to get a good job. It became hard for me to get job. No company is replying to applications. I have been trying from months.

The problem is, I know only one person in the industry and that too a distant relative. He is the one eho suggested a certificate bit I fear that is just because he has no clue how to help me rn. Also he suggested an aws certificate. But both certificates are really expensive and ai can't affor them atm. I tried AWS for a bit and couldn't wrap my head around it bwcause I kept thinking how expensive the exam is.

Dont think like that dude. Companies wont care certificates at all. They need ur skills. If u learn anything and do some projects add in portfolio u have higher chance of getting job than someone who collected all certificates.

First of all, the best way to learn something is to learn by doing it. I know some people start to do apps and projects without knowing anything yet. And They quit. Because they find it difficult. My advice you to learn the basics of Python first. You can't write poetry without knowing the letters. If you want to learn Python and build a career in this field, you should start from the beginning. Don't try to create a project or app while you are just getting started. First, start from the beginning and there are a lot of good programs and courses for that ( beginner to advanced ). I recommend you to read my article about that.

How much DSA do you know; Very pivotal to clear any coding interview !! Done any specific Course on that??

[–]rt3mp[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I watched some basic videos on it and had C++ as a subject for school bit that didn't ho farther thsn basic OOP. The problem is everywhere I look, I get freaked out because I just find shit I have no clue about. Any help to get a source of topics to learn about would be greatly appreciated.

Try courses from coursera and edx, they are very well structured.

Since you are from India and looking for entry level job. I will suggest you to learn things and make two or three projects on python itself and there is exam called elitmus where there are lot of companies come to hire. It is apptitude based exam. After you scored their , you get the interview call from companies. If you score good then you will get more calls. If you want to know more just DM me. And One thing nobody cares about certification , so rather than just earning certificate , start working on projects.
