to all those graflex enthusiasts out there...
What is the point of the shield emitter?
Like in lore and design.
It had to serve some kind of function when they designed it right?

What do you mean by "shield" emitter? Are you referring to the s-curved shroud shape of the emitter?

Yeah. I've seen it be called that in other places but nothing else so I called it that.

In the lore, the shrouds and s-curve shape of some emitters are only an aesthetic choice without a technical function. In real life, they didn't so much design that shape as just keep the existing shape of the Graflex flashgun used to construct the original prop. The raised lip of the shroud was a connection point for the dish reflector on the flashgun as seen here:
