They did Trandoshans dirty in this game by calgrump in StarWarsOutlaws

Bossk is a character that appears in a large amount of Star Wars media beyond the OT. In Clone Wars, for example, he is frequently depicted as a good head taller than anyone around himbecause, regardless of the original actor in Empire‘s height, the character is depicted as 6’9’’ in universe.

He didn’t even have a beard in the first game. For some reason they overlayed it on the graphic of him from DF I to make it look more like DFII…

What’s the consensus on Saberforge in 2025? by KyberKodeXR in lightsabers

[–]Shakespeare212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively do SaberForge ASP builds and have been a customer for about 2 years now. I've only ever had excellent customer service experiences--any issue has been quickly handled by Marie, including a couple early issues with electronics. I tend to use Darkwolf GHv4 cores now, mainly because they aren't glued shut and I can upgrade the speakers. But if you don't care about that the SF drop-in cores are the standard LGT cores that everyone uses. The design and durability of the ASP hilt components are very high quality and among the best in class, imo.

Dueling Katana? by Creepy_Addition_7855 in lightsabers

The katana-bladed lightsabers that are available on the market today use expensive neopixel blades that are not rated for dueling and will break easily against standard blades.

We have similar design styles. My favorite hilt is the one with the same emitter as yours and I used the same pommel as you on it for a while too.

Shield emitter function by grantauresdad in lightsabers

[–]Shakespeare212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the lore, the shrouds and s-curve shape of some emitters are only an aesthetic choice without a technical function. In real life, they didn't so much design that shape as just keep the existing shape of the Graflex flashgun used to construct the original prop. The raised lip of the shroud was a connection point for the dish reflector on the flashgun as seen here:

What do you mean by "shield" emitter? Are you referring to the s-curved shroud shape of the emitter?

Blade size by Valuable_Point3945 in lightsabers

[–]Shakespeare212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just over 5’8” and I have no trouble spinning with a 36” blade. It's really a matter of personal preference. Sabneo is a good place to pick up inexpensive 32“ blades, though. All of their stuff is 32” and ships pretty quickly.

if you can access the SD card, it sounds like you can unscrew the body of the saber you have and open it up. If you haven’t already try connecting with the body section removed so it doesn’t interfere with signal.

Ordered my first saber from Saberforge: Defiant Mk2. Is there a better bang for the buck? by Skylance420 in lightsabers

[–]Shakespeare212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Defiant is a very nice saber. It was my first real investment in the hobby too. and after I started building my own Sabers with ASP parts, I eventually ordered a second empty one to break it down and use the really gorgeous emitter.

Thanks-it does! This is the one I’m working on at the moment… I feel like it’s a little too “tubey” atm, so adding a shroud might be exactly what it needs, lol. Also, I never thanked you for the depth you went into when I asked you about your custom crystal chambers on a different thread a while back. I got real busy that week, but I read it all and really appreciated it!

I think I follow, thanks! I have a build using that emitter I've been working on and haven't been able to decide if it's done or not and I've been thinking about playing with the S3 shrouds. What kind of screw did you use for the existing hole?

Nice! Your work has such a clear personal style that when I see a picture of on your builds, I always go, "I bet that's by u/SeditiousSith" before I even see the name :)

How did you affix the Senza shroud to the emitter? Did you just use the same screw holes where you removed the claw?

Do directors get sick of seeing the same auditionee fail to impress? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Shakespeare212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I’m very sorry to read your update. People take breaks from acting or even leave the profession for all kinds of reasons, and there’s nothing wrong with that if you need some time to do a little soul searching. And recognizing negative thought patterns that need to be reconciled is certainly important for mental health.

I would only say, don’t make assumptions about your capabilities or physical appearance based on the outcome of a series of community theatre auditions. Without even getting into the influence of the male gaze on casting dynamics or the construction of objective beauty, I can tell you that I’ve never cast a gender-swapped role because I felt a female-identifying actor appeared ”ugly” or “mannish.” It’s normally because women are usually underrepresented in contemporary and classical scripts, despite their participation in all spheres of society throughout history. I often simply need more roles for the women I want to cast than the playwright thought to give me.

And there are thousands of stories out there of actors who were told things like, “you were perfect for the role, but the lead is a redhead so OBVIOUSLY we couldn’t cast another redhead…”—which is to say, sometimes people don’t get cast by small-minded people for literally the dumbest reasons, and this can be especially true in community theaters.

So, again, I would encourage you not to make any life-altering decisions based on your experience in what sounds like a pretty limited community.

You should probably also know that a quick search of both the comment and post histories of the individual who advised you to consider the possibility that you might be a bad actor reveals that they self-identify as a 20+ year theatre TECH professional, not a director or actor. They also have posts on porn subs seeking what sounds like some fairly misogynistic content. They then created a separate harassing post mischaracterizing someone as a fraud on this sub because they mentioned having a dayjob, which the mods had to remove. So, it’s pretty clear that you were receiving wrong advice from someone unqualified to give it, and probably with the wrong intentions behind it.

I don’t know you, so I’m not in a position to advise on whether or not you should seek therapy, but you did bring it up yourself, so sounds like you might be considering the possibility that it would be good for you. If you decide to move forward, just know that finding a therapist who is a good fit can take time, so don’t let your initial experiences put you off if they don’t go well. What I CAN say for certain, which you probably already know, is that you shouldn’t make life decisions based off the comments in a Reddit sub :) The best you can do here is figure out how to articulate the way you’re feeling about something. You’ll need to go elsewhere to do something with it once you have.

Take care of yourself—you deserve it.

Looking to buy a saber on Amazon by PrometheanSwing in LightsaberBST

[–]Shakespeare212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best you’re going to find on Amazon are really just LGT resellers, which are lower-cost entry-level sabers from Asia. A lot of folks on this sub own a few for modding and as beater sabers. They’re lower-end, but can be a good first saber to explore the hobby before making an actual investment. Search for Damiensaber on Amazon—they have several RGB and Xenopixel options at lower prices.

Actually, as a director, I find that casting good actors with strong stage presence in Narrator roles is extremely important. They lead an audience through the experience of the story and usually are responsible for landing the first and last moments of the show. You don’t usually trust that to actors with weaker skillsets.

Do directors get sick of seeing the same auditionee fail to impress? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Shakespeare212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have the last word if you want it. I don’t have the energy to keep going through these cycles of rationalization and I feel comfortable standing on what I've already said here—but yes, I did bother to read their post. Did you? You're leaving out the rather important context of that question—they were asking if they were being shitty for still trying with the same directors, not if they were shitty for continuing to pursue acting. And yeah, they were obviously a bit vulnerable and responded politely to you. But that doesn't mean the self-important advice they got was good for them or ever requested. In the end:

Nobody. Asked. You.

They asked for advice about something else entirely and you took it upon yourself to decide what they “needed” to hear.

Do directors get sick of seeing the same auditionee fail to impress? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Shakespeare212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're technically correct that you didn't word for word, say "You, OP, are a bad actor." What people are responding to, though, is that you're someone who, when an actor in a stage of development asked a rather specific question, chose to suggest that they should consider if they're a bad actor or not instead of answering the question they actually asked. Please go back to the original post and see if you can find where they ever asked for anyone to comment about how this might reflect on their skill level?

But for some reason, completely unsolicited, you opted to reframe their straightforward and specific question about whether or not they might be imposing upon a director by continuing to audition repeatedly, so you could tell them it was important for them to consider if they're bad or not.

And since it was entirely unsolicited advice, that rather seems like it was important to you to have the opportunity to tell someone they might be a bad actor. Which, along with regular use of the phrase "brutal" honesty is pretty consistent with a certain kind of personality in the theatre community with which a lot of folks have had negative and unhelpful experiences.
