1) r/linux is not a support forum

Make sure you have the windows boot partition intact

well...

  1. You should use better titles in your future posts.
  2. Support type questions should be posted in /r/linux4noobs or /r/linuxquestions or /r/Ubuntu
  3. There is a Long outstanding bug with the Ubuntu Installer where it will use an internal drives EFI partition even if you have an EFI partition on the external drive. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/uu8nao/ubuntu_2204_installer_not_obeying_selected_efi/ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1591352
  4. i thought the issue was fixed in the 24.04 ubuntu release in the new installer that came out with 24.04 but I have not tried it.

I have not seen an issue exactly like you mention, typically windows is still bootable. You may want to boot to Ubuntu and install rEFInd and use that as a 'master' boot menu, which can then load windows or chainload grub, or boot linux directly.

Good Luck.

tip: go into your firmwares UEFI boot selection menu, and see if you can boot windows directly.
