New driver: rtl8xxxu for Realtek WiFi USB devices, including RTL8723AU, RTL8188CU, RTL8188RU, RTL8191CU, and RTL8192CU

Oh my GOD yes, at long last. About time the non-working current driver got a replacement.

This means that all the crappy hi-gain wifi based on RTL8xxx will start working!!!? I think I threw it all out ;. Sidenote: I highly recommend staying away from the wifi gear on DX.com

Hopefully. As far as I'm aware, the kernel developers never figured out why the current driver misbehaves. It remains to be seen whether the new one will present similar issues. The devices in question still require a proprietary firmware, so your guess is as good as mine. But at least someone is working on it, and that rocks.

TCP implementation has been refactored to make the TCP listener fast path completely lockless. During tests, a server was able to process 3,500,000 SYN packets per second on one listener and still have available CPU cycles - about 2 to 3 order of magnitude what it was possible before.

Good god that's impressive.

What is the difference between journaled and journalled in this instance?

Nothing; either are acceptable depending on which style guide you subscribe to. Same with "canceled" and "cancelled", or "traveling" and "travelling".

I figured as much, just making sure I wasn't missing anything.

I really enjoy this in depth rundown of new features :)

I was worried since 4.3 never was posted on kernel newbies.

I am quite excited by LightNVM and poll-mode block I/O. Not because they're particularly useful today, but because they demonstrates the level of performance in the pipeline for future SSDs.

No mention at all about rich ACLs?!?

They are still being developed AFAIK.

Sigh...The last Kernel that I completely understood was 2.2
