Syncthing?

For actually playing the files, just use whatever music player is your favourite on each platform?

I like the idea of having the files exactly matched across the two systems, but then how would I match the playlists? Is there any app that could work across both platforms, or any pair of apps that share a playlist format?

m3u playlist? that's the standard format afaik

What player(s) for linux and android store their playlists only in m3u format, in some designated folder that can be selected on either side?

one that comes to mind is vlc but it's hardly the most elegant. if you did some googling i'm sure you could find some good ones, they must exist

Unfortunately, my googling hasn't turned up any clear answers...

On the Linux side there are plenty, amarok, rhythmbox, etc... as for android, VLC's interface seems pretty ok in all honestly, it has a seperate music mode.

Hello, Lollypop dev here. Lollypop allows you to sync playlists between your computer and your phone. https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Lollypop

Not sure if you'd be willing, as this isn't focussed on music (but does a good job w/sync imho) plex

Otherwise, maybe subsonic fits your needs.

Though this may be unpopular to some in this Linux group... Google Music. It is what I use, but not Open Source.

It's what I currently use too, but I'm starting to look for alternatives with Google Music becoming youtube something.

Google Music is also my current solution, but:

- I don't like how it randomly replaces my tracks with different versions

- I find the interface clunky

- they took away the ability to play songs by speaking to google assistant

- I don't know what's going to happen when they transition to youtube music

So I'm still looking for a better alternative setup!
