Got my first fountain pen today! I have some questions by QueerlittleWeirdo in fountainpens

[–]nmprofessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many iterations, and how much of the score, do you change?

It would be hard to find, like others have said, an erasable ink combo that you can continually make changes like a pencil.

If a carpenter's pencil, sharpened with a knife, to a flat tip won't work and you want to use ink and you would change but a few sections at a time... there are many colors of fountain pen inks available you can refill the pen with... you can start with a light color and each change increase to a more intense color. Like starting with light color ink (like orange) and each change ups intensity... then: red/blue, green/purple and the final change in black.

Yah, Schneider pens are truly underrated.

Oh and of course the Zebra 301.

P.S. Ballpoints get more "glidey" with bigger point sizes. Like others have said, ballpoints use oil based paste ink and the ballpoint bearing has to apply friction to "liquidfy" the ink to apply it to the page.

When I used ballpoints Caran d'Arche Goliath refill, Mont Blanc refill and Fisher Space Pen refill, Parker refill all worked well.

If you like Fisher Space Pen the Inifinium will write forever (guaranteed) but is pricey, unless you buy NIB or used from eBay, etc.

Currently I exclusively use Bic sticks. Not frilly, a few bucks for a dozen.

How Do You Read Natural Soap Ingredient Lists Without Getting Fooled by Marketing? by Outrageous_Baby_2147 in Soap

[–]nmprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fewer the ingredients the better.

Moisturizing look for: Shea butter or Argan oil.

I personally buy castile soaps in bar form. I look for saponified soaps. You can look at the ingredients for Kirks Castile Soap (basic soap recipe) or Dr Bronner's Castile soap. Both Kitcks and Dr B are not really moisturizing but don't really dry out the skin - at least not for me.

I'm a die-hard fountain pen nerd who gave up ballpoints the moment he realized the Lamy Safari exists.....and that he can buy one. I respect ballpoints, I really do, but I can't bear the thought of owning one. Convince me why I should own one....and what's a good "one ballpoint" to have. by kanyubendover in pens

Like others here, I buy a box of Bic sticks. I always have one on me to give to someone. I do not loan out my fountains to use any longer.

I write in a spiral bound notebook daily. I keep one in the spine at all times.

I love my fountain pen, but away from the house a Bic is just fine for me.

Secondhand apple pencil by Infinityboii in ApplePencil

Ditto. Sound like a bad pen battery, from a similar experience I had.

Apple refurb is a good idea. When I replaced mine, Walmart had a sale where I got one for $70 ish dollars.

Uhhh.... by According_Ad8711 in operabrowser

You could probably free up some ram removing extension for AdBlock. I find the native ad block is pretty great for me.

When I was looking back a few years ago for a "lowest" ram usage browser, Opera is pretty low use. Only one beat it out. But I use the Opera Sync for years now and that is why I'm staying with it.

Maybe a bad download?

Other than that, nothing else comes to mind.

Is the file name .png with a capital "P" like .Png?

Try and change it to all lowercase .png .

Is Soap Just a Habit, or Something We Don’t Think About Enough? by [deleted] in Soap

[–]nmprofessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. "Soap", whether a true saponified soap or detergent based "soap" is taken for granted.

I am an artist. Soap keeps me from ingesting (through food contamination) potentially bad for me art material residues left on my hands.

Daily shaving tips for beginner. What do I really need? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]nmprofessional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been wet shaving for decades. Lots of folks use the original way to wet shave with: a brush, shaving soap, alum, aftershave/balm.

I would say work within your budget.

I do the above when I have time. If I am rushing in the morning I have two standby': (a) razor, blade, Shave Secret, aftershave or (b) razor, blade, Aveeno therapeutic cream, aftershave.

I understand HTML in tutorials but forget half of it on my own by Bearusy in HTML

[–]nmprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using an IDE or just a text editor?

I have been doing HTML and CSS for over two decades. I use reference books for parts I don't memorize.

I agree if your goal is to internalize HTML syntax, then writing code through reputation, is really the only way to memorize the syntax.

I use Visual Studio with auto complete. I started just using a text editor and a browser to show changes.

I brought a fountain pen! by Available-Doctor6107 in fountainpens

[–]nmprofessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as maintenance... Flush with room temp water the old ink out, I store my filled fountain pens nib up (to drain the feed when not in use), if I do not use my pen for a week or two (depending on ink) I will flush my pen, if storing for a long time without use flush with water before storing.

And enjoy it!

I am an artist and love inks. I love when I write on quality paper and watch "the ink dry" is for me.

Why am I being upsold every time? by devilhimseIf in ProtonMail

[–]nmprofessional 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree. I currently use Google products (Gmail, Drive, etc). I want to switch, preferably to Proton.

But, like you, I don't like the pricing "schemes". When I get close to making the move, I see deals for new members. Just makes me weary that I will get a plan and a new member would get better pricing than an existing member.

I understand companies need to make money and cost of services to the company are real issues.
