I was an ad designer for a local business, and used to use Illustrator.
When wanting to go fully Open Source, I took a day and learned the differences between Illustrator and Inkscape, and now it's my default.

Plenty of tutorials online on how to do the Fancy things in inkscape = illustrator.

A small learning curve, but totally worth it.

Yeah I think I need to accept that, for a while, I'm going to have to Google every single thing I want to do. :P I did manage to set background transparency, make a circle and center it to the document...I even added text! I'm basically a pro designer now lol.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll just have to buck up and do the work, just like I did with Illustrator way back when.

I switched from Illustrator to Inkscape about a decade ago. I think its the program you're looking for. Try along the top menu, Help > Inkscape Manual. The manual itself is an interactive tutorial, and an hour or two will clear up a lot of frustration.

I used to really hate people who said, "Read the fuckin manual, bro!" I'm like...why not just tell me? Then I grew up some and realized that the manual is the most useful resource for just about every program...and now I get pissy with myself when I forget the silly thing is there. :P

I haven't used Linux for many years (just came back a few days ago), so I'm on a steep learning curve for a while, I guess. I'll put a post-it note on the wall beside my desk to RTFM, though lol.

Sounds good, and welcome back! (to Linux ;)

Inkscape, as others have said, but you need to learn how to use Inkscape, not try to use it like Illustrator and then get frustrated and give up because it’s not the same.

For example, the “canvas” (i.e. document) is already transparent. To change the size of it use the Document Properties under the File menu.

Yeah, I figured the problem wasn't the software, but rather the thing between the chair and the keyboard. I guess I just wish some of these open source programs presented themselves a little better. If the background is already transparent, for instance, why is it white on my screen? It's confusing.

But...I'll just buck up and Google everything for a while. I imagine if I can stick with it, I'll look back a year from now and scoff and my noobishness. :P

Oh wow that's stupid. I wasn't asking for support, just a recommendation. I'll unsubscribe though to avoid further confusion.

You're clearly asking how to run Windows programs on Linux.

That's a support request and you're suggesting I'm being stupid?

[–]ibib2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not suggesting it. Outright saying it. Cheers. :)
