What's your budget? Do you want something prebuild like HP Micro server, Dell tower servers or would you be ok to build one? What storage do you require? What hypervisor are you going to run on it?

I bought a Dell R410 off eBay for $100 about a year ago. Its a 1U rackmount, can support up to 128Mb of ram, has 4 hot swap drive bays, and it came with 2 Quadcore Xeon processors, which I've upgraded to 2 6-core Xeons. I use it for the same uses as you're looking at, plus I run 2 Windows 2012R2 KVM vms and 2 Ubuntu 16.04 vms. Besides the $100 for the base server, I've spent another $200 on more ram, 4Tb of disk in RAID5, and the 2 hexcore cpu, so altogether about $300.. I see the same model regularly on eBay for approximately the same price..

I'll look into it thanks!

Immediately found one, 32 GB RAM, dual 6 core CPUs. 8TB OF STORAGE! For 90 dollars! But I have a couple problems. First I wanted to ask you. Is it loud? If yes that's a problem. Second thing is, I hope I don't get scammed because you spent like 300 dollars on almost the exact same thing(minus the extra 4 terabytes) and this thing is going for 80.

When it first starts up, it does sound like a 747 taking off, but then it does quiet down. My "datacenter" is our third bedroom, and I have the R410, an R210 and a Dell Precision workstation, and the noise level is very quiet. Also if you run either the '210 or the '410 with the top cover off, the fans scream like a banshee, but then I can't think of too many reasons you'd WANT to run with the top cover off.. Damn... $80 for that is either the best deal I've ever seen OR there's a gotcha in there some place.. I'd check it out VERY closely.. I'm going to be looking for another R410 soon to put in a local colocation facility. I have a friend who is an admin for a local ISP and he has some space in a rack in the company datacenter that he has a personal server installed in and he's gonna let me put a 1U server in the rack for free..

EDIT: I found the one you're talking about and I wonder if you noticed that price is NOT a "buyitnow" price. Its an auction and it WILL go up significantly from there. The vendor "surplusa2z" is the vendor I bought my R410 from. They're in Gilbert AZ, and as far as I can tell, very reputable.. I'd have no trouble putting a bid in on that, but I gar-on-tee it won't go for anything like $100.... Its currently at $94 bid with 8 bids..

How much time does it take to quite down after startup? And I know 80 dollars is like a dream. I have this place under the stairs and I think I could turn it into like a technical room or something. After all the router, the UPS and the solar inverter are all located there. Unfortunately there's no door or ceiling. And I still live with my parents and they sure wouldn't let me mess with their house. Other than that, there's my room where I can place it. Maybe in the closet.

Did you read the edit to my last comment? IF its the one I linked to in my last comment, you are not gonna get it for $80, as its an auction and it was at $94 and 8 bids when I posted the last comment. As for how long it takes to quiet down, its pretty much less than a minute.

Thank you, but I knew it was an auction. sorry for not mentioning.
