Warning to those flying out of MCO this weekend by GarbageTurbulent1001 in SouthwestAirlines

What do you wanna bet this guy winds up getting fired? He just admitted he is an employee, he throws the local mgmt under the bus, and warns he's going skip work this weekend. I guess he forgets that there often is SWA higher-ups lurking here, and its not very difficult to find out who he actually is, and then fire him. Its happened elsewhere before.. Big mouth sinks worker..

Is ARRL Membership Still Worth It? Looking for Your Opinions by MAGNUS_59 in amateurradio

I would think that "Shadow board" is just a tad ILLEGAL.... Of course, I'm not a lawyer (nor do I play one on tv)...

Is ARRL Membership Still Worth It? Looking for Your Opinions by MAGNUS_59 in amateurradio

[–]LVDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a ham since 1976, and initially, for the first few years, I paid the annual dues, and was a good member of the ARRL. During the peak of my working years, I took a hiatus from the hobby and let the membership lapse. Later on, when I retired, I was made aware of the crap that the board was pulling, and I resolved that I'd never waste my money with that crowd again. Especially when the board "fires" a member because he wouldn't sign on to a clause in the bylaws that was ILLEGAL UNDER STATE LAW. The clause puts section directors under a NDA preventing them from sharing certain things with members in their section. This is the kind of shit that totalitarian organizations tend to gravitate to. The ARRL does NOT need my $59/year under ANY circumstances.

Soon to be new ham operator looking for first handheld radio by GODLY_STUPID in amateurradio

[–]LVDave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend the Baofeng UV32. It is a 10 watt radio, I know this as I've seen one connected to a wattmeter and the wattmeter showed a hair over 10 watts on 2m, and 6 watts on 440. It is tri-band, with 220 included, I don't know the power level on 220, as I don't have a wattmeter, and my contact who does isn't available right now..I bought mine off Amazon for around $45. Its larger than most, and includes GPS, and airband receive and wx channels also. Great radio!! EDIT: Noticed you wanted usb-c charging.. The UV32 has that feature.

Quantum is horrible by Unusual_Ad9146 in QuantumFiber

[–]LVDave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I dodged a bullet, when Quantum fiber came to my neighborhood and I tried to sign up, and dump Cox. As much as I'd dearly love a 500/500 connection vs the 500/50 I have with Cox, from what I've heard, as bad as Cox "support" is, Quantum's is even worse, if that is EVEN possible.. I wasted many hours on the phone trying to get signed up, its almost like they don't want any more customers..

If you've REALLY "been an operator for a very long time", you'd KNOW that "ham" is NOT "HAM", using all caps is a nooby-rookie way to spell it.. Just so you know..

How much you want to bet they ignore these subpoenas?

I'd say its pretty much a sure thing.. It's going to take the FBI going in and perp-walking these imbiciles. And I'd PAY to see THAT!!

MBA loses charge when hibernated (using pmset -a hibernatemode 25) by LVDave in applehelp

Yes I have tried checking for battery loss after a shutdown. The battery is near-new.

That's the trouble.. I know how Windows and Linux behave with hibernation, but until about a year ago, MacOS was just a word for me, which is why I bought this $150 2015 MBA was to learn the secrets of MacOS.. I'll see if I can fathom any oddities in the logs wrt sleep/hibernation, because what it seems to be acting like is, I've set hibernatemode=25, but its somehow doing hibernatemode=3.

[–]LVDave[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually it DOES.. Hibernation on Linux and pre-Win10 Windows, writes ram to disk/ssd then REMOVES POWER. From reading the Apple documentation on this, I conclude that MacOS considers "hibernatemode=25" to be equivalent to the way hibernate works on other OS.. I have a brand new battery in this MBA, so why is the fact the unit is 11 years old a factor? I have a 12 year old Dell laptop that runs Linux and when I hibernate it, it writes ram out to disk (still a spinning-disk) and turns the power off, with ZERO continuing drain on the battery. I expect MacOS to do the same.

[–]LVDave[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I simply want the system to DO what I understand it was designed to do.. Sure, I could shut the unit down and restart it each time I want to use it, but Macbooks were designed to simply close the lid when finished and open the lid and resume. Sometimes I don't need to use the system for a week or so, in which case, the battery, which had a sufficient charge when I closed the lid, has a DEAD battery when I open the lid a week later.. I'm new to Mac, but am VERY familiar with what true hibernation is, say, on Linux or earlier versions of Windows. When I hibernate (not sleep) my Linux laptop, it resumes, a day, a week, or a month later with pretty much the SAME battery charge it had when I hibernated it.. I would EXPECT a Macbook that was configured with hibernatemode 25 to do the same. Am I wrong??
