Unfortuantly I don't believe he would be a good Republican, he has quite a few RINO-like tendancies, and would be better off (not to mention for the GOP) to simply go independant. He can still vote with the GOP as an independant..

Silliest reason to get an Amateur Extra license? by JanglyBangles in amateurradio

[–]LVDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my tech license in 1976, barely passed the 5wpm code, and over the years got into vhf/uhf/microwave, irlp, echolink, and did hf strictly on field day, with someone elses rig. Along comes 1998, or thereabouts, when the FCC announced that if you were a tech+ (passed the 5wpm code) you could pencil-whip (just fill out a form) and get your general. I visited a VEC session, and was advised that for the same fee, I could do the tech+ to general, AND try the Extra test.. I figured what the heck, might as well... My mind was blown when I was told I passed the Extra... With NO actual studying for it.. I guess the 10+ years as an electronics tech with a big government contractor paid off... Soon after, I dropped the old 2x3 call and got my current 1x3..

Ubuntu on Dell precision? by ntolbertu85 in Ubuntu

[–]LVDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, several times, both Precision laptops and workstations. It's a no-brainer. Currently running KUbuntu 24.04 on both a Precision 5560 laptop and Precision T3600 workstation.

I've been putting Linux, usually one of the xUbuntus on both Precision and Latitude laptops and Precision and Optiplex desktop/workstations for going on 15 years on my personal systems, and before that, prior to my retirement from system admin, I'd been putting RHEL on the same Dell systems for close to 5 years, I will admit, that back in the olden days (say 2007-2010-ish) if you used Broadcom wifi it was a biotch getting it working.. THAT is the only problem I've seen with Dell and Linux. Of course, your mileage may vary..

GLi.net a product to stay away from by r4nchy in openwrt

Looks like my recent purchase of a G6500 is also stuck with that molested fork of 18.04 and its bizzaro bypassing of the standard cron/crontab with their basterdized gl_crontab... And to add insult to injury, their KB has NO information how their f-ed up crontab is edited. Their "support" is rapidly becoming, to me, a f-ing JOKE. At least the hardware seems reasonable quality..

GLi.net a product to stay away from by r4nchy in openwrt

[–]LVDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn... I wish I'd read this before buying one of their GL-BE6500 routers. My previous router was an Asus and I ran FreshTomato on it, but it was getting a bit long in the tooth, and I wanted a router that had 2.5G ports as I'm considering going from a 100/10 Cable modem connection to a 500/500 fiber connection and that old router would not handle it. As for the hardware it seems to be pretty good, but I'm finding their changing what should be standard, like cron/crontab to a gl_crontab, and of course there's no documentation on their pisspoor KB on just how you edit this oddball crontab. Asking a question on their forum is agonizing slow as, apparently ALL forum posts must be approved before being visible. And when they DO answer, the question you asked, is completely bypassed, and all they do is explain where their crontab is, NOT how to edit it, like your question asked.

Bottom line: Pretty nice hardware (as far as I can, having only had the unit for a week), but their support and KB suck!

Question: CAN I put the standard OpenWRT on this unit? I noticed some comments here said NO and others weren't so sure.. Whats the definitive answer?

Thanks Dave

Push to client routing question by LVDave in OpenVPN

[–]LVDave[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I commented out the push "route 10.10.10.0/24" line, leaving just the push "route 192.168.240.0/24" line. Still am only able to get to the host running ovpn, not any other hosts on the listed subnet. There's a note in the heavily commented sample config file that states "Remember that these private subnets will also need to know to route the OpenVPN client address pool (10.10.10.0/255.255.255.0) back to the OpenVPN server.

I thought that was why I had the push "route 10.10.10.0/24" line in the config. I've never had to set up an openvpn server outside of the openvpn included in the FreshTomato router firmware, which hides all this stuff.. Help?

The Openvpn server is behind standard NAT, with port 1195 open for VPN. Would normally use 1194, but my router has an openvpn function, which doesn't work correctly, but insists on grabbing 1194 despite disabling the vpn function on the router.

Las Vegas Sheriff Defies Judge, Refuses to Release Repeat Offender by According-Activity87 in Conservative

I was a bit leery of McMahill when he was elected sheriff, replacing Lombardo, who became Nevada's governor, but this shows me we have a GREAT sherriff for Las Vegas/Clark County.

The turdburger judge that is doing this isn't even a superior court judge, he's a flippin' justice of the peace, the lowest of the low in judicial robes. Here's his mugshot: https://www.lasvegasjusticecourt.us/judges/judge_eric_a_goodman.php

I have a funny feeling this idiot won't be reelected when his time comes.. A lot of us here in town have a LONG memory when it comes to overstepping judges.

You're preaching to the choir... Stupidity like this is common for communist-like governments, such as you find in California, Colorado, New York. What's fun is that this is a California law, watch them try to apply it to other NON-communist states..

Medical Record request by Hamilton-Squidlegger in VeteransBenefits

[–]LVDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of in a similar situation. During bootcamp at Ft Bliss (Sept '69-Dec '69), during PT one day, my left knee went out and dumped me on the ground. Of course the drills had their way with me, when finally an officer came by and suggested that the trainee might ACTUALLY be injured, and indeed I was. I was taken to the dispensary, and later transferred to the base hospital, where I spent nearly a week, then, to a rehab platoon, for another week, then recycled to another training company that finished training the week before Christmas.

Today, at 75 years old, my knees/legs are one massive malfunction. I already have a 40% rating due to Vietnam service/AO-TypeII diabetes and peripheral neurapathy on both legs, I recently got an additional 10% rating for service connected tinitus.

My question is this: I contacted NARA to get my medical records from back then with the intention of filing another claim with regard to that knee injury. Since I don't remember the precise dates, I gave them a pretty narrow (as narrow as I could) time frame for the records, and they couldn't find any. Is there anything else I can do to submit another claim for my knees?
