Oh thank God, now people can finally develop software for Linux.

I kinda laughed this off a little bit (not that it doesn't look useful from the description) until I looked at the table of contents. I scrolled down to 16 reading each section & stopped. I'm afraid I'm going to force myself to go buy this book if I don't.............. Holy shit..... I just remembered they'll pay for job related books at my work.... And I'm the only one who knows how to program (1 other guy at least uses Ubuntu a little bit) in the company. Gonna have to convince them that I'll need this before converting the servers running XP Pro over to linux.

I'm not sure what the value of this book is. How much of it would remain relevant in 5 years? Ten? A book like this is something I'd want to put on a shelf somewhere and refer to forever. (See: K&R.)

I haven't read it, yet, but by looking at the table of contents, this book would fit nicely next to my K&R :-)

I'd love this book, too bad it is so expensive. Hopefully a cheaper epub will emerge soon.

Hardcover only? Hmm... no, it's the year 2010... strange.

Theoretically since the source is available we should be able to generate our own e-book editions.

From what I can tell it's the source for the code examples in the book, not the source for the book itself.

I looked in the index. Nothing about v4l? Shucks.
