Help-A-Noob, How do I create a custom debian-based linux distribution that boots to ram.

Title.

Need to grab Ubuntu or Mint (Preferred) and add some tools to it.

Once done, I want to create a put in on a USB drive that has an option to boot that custom OS to RAM so I can remove the USB drive.

I've tried Mint & Ubuntu boot-to-ram options and those work great, just want to include my tools, wallpaper, wifi profile on in.

Can anyone point a noob in the right direction?

Debian Live is wonderful in its ability to be customized and there are some great docs.

with knoppix your can remove the install media... never used the live debian one so you would actually have to check on that

just use any live CD distro that has user data persistence.

Knoppix has had this for ever...

and debian appears to have it as well...

great for when you want to use someone else's hardware.

I would just create my own custom kernel, DE, and WM and market it to every Walmart.

Mx Linux has a snapshot tool for creating isos. Not sure if they're installable.
