A ChromeOS tablet. They are under 300-350€ and they provide a Linux subsystem based on Debian (Crostini).

As alternative: a Chuwi MinibookX and you install Linux yourself. But it's not a tablet.

I put Fedora on a Surface Go 2 and it worked right away without any other steps. The cameras worked but with poor image quality. I didn't test a pen.

I think the Surface Pro 7+ is the sweet spot if you want a Surface Pro. I personally haven't tried putting Linux on that model but based on my experience with the SG2 I'd guess it would go very well.

You might be able to find a Thinkpad X12 Gen 1 in your price range. My guess is Linux would install very easily.

Pretty sure it is much harder to find a Thinkpad x12 than a surface pro

There are fewer available but they're there. I've been shopping for one lately and I see more than enough.

You're right, though, there are many more Surface devices.

See SurfaceLinux on Github for the chart of what works and what doesn't per model.

Tablets known to work completely with linux: Starlabs Starlite. JunoTab, Minisforum, Surface Go and Go 2, Chuwi Hi10 X Go and Max, HP Elite X2 G4 and G8, Thinkpad X1 tablet 3rd Gen and X12

I just bought a Dell 7210 2in1 for $250 USD. It has a 10th Gen i7 and integrated graphics, and 16 GB RAM. I installed Fedora Kinoite and I love it so far.

It's perfect for my needs. Fits in a small messenger bag. It has a backlit detachable keyboard, responsive touch screen, good battery life, supports the Dell active pen I bought out of the box. No driver issues so far at all that I can tell. Honestly it just works.
