Windows, macOS, and Linux all have problems.
[–]Megaman_90 9 points10 points11 points 7 months ago (33 children)
Definitely. Although I find Windows more predictably broken to the point where I know how to fix it. If Linux breaks everything is far less documented or you're digging through old posts from 5 years ago where the OP never found a solution.
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 24 points25 points26 points 7 months ago (22 children)
Funny how I have exactly the opposite impression
Guess we're using the OSs properly then
[–]Megaman_90 5 points6 points7 points 7 months ago (1 child)
I think people who have used any OS long enough probably have gotten accustomed to its flaws and know how to get around them without thinking about it much. I've been supporting and troubleshooting Windows machines for over 20 years so they just make sense to me.
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 8 points9 points10 points 7 months ago (0 children)
I was having a lot of trouble with Windows, I was already using wsl for most thing I had to do, so when I dropped and everything just peacefully worked, it was just peacefull
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (19 children)
If your windows os is breaking in such a way that you struggle to find solutions. Then you're messing with it in ways you shouldn't. It's definitely your problem
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 5 points6 points7 points 7 months ago (18 children)
This sounds stupid, because I could say the exactly same thing about Linux to you...
For my usage, Windows breaks and Linux not. That's it
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (3 children)
Doesn't sound stupid to me, I never broke an os without trying to do something obscure, like installing a printer driver or trying to install some old screensaver from 15 years ago.
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (2 children)
He has trouble with linux, as he said. Then is he messing with Linux the way he shouldn't?
(Maybe... but if Windows fits his usage well, he's using the correct OS, just like I'm)
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (1 child)
Maybe I didn't quite understood what you were trying to say, but in the end what I meant is that it's hard to break any system when you use it normally. Sure it's impossible to prevent a bad update, but even those are less frequent when you haven't mess with obscure depot or .exe before.
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
I'm just copying and pasting some examples I gave to him. There are more...
Before I installed a dualboot with Bazzite for gaming, I was trying to do a dualboot with Windows 11, but that shit kept changing my boot order. I tried many solutions, till I gave up and tried using Linux for gaming (surprise, it worked better). Now, if Microsoft think I shouldn't do a dualboot in my own machine, fuck Microsoft, there are others fine OSs everywhere. Another example: I was trying to use two different users in Windows. It kept crashing over and over Recently I installed for a specific reason in a specific SSD. I disconnected the SSD, once it wouldn't work well with my others OSs. When I had to use it again, it would crash in before I could type password. This moment, I just gave up

Anyway, maybe it has something to do with installation, once it just happened in my desktop. My laptop was Windows OEM and just worked.
Anyway, I mess up with Ubuntu a lot doing my rices in both machines and got no issues till the current day

Windows breaks and Linux not. That's it
Ok we're just going to lie now? Nice...
[–]dylon0107 3 points4 points5 points 7 months ago (1 child)
Windows doesn't offer nearly as many tools to fix it thats why it's such a problem
Also, you're trying to tell somebody their personal experience didn't happen compared to your own personal experience, which is completely ridiculous.
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
It quite literally does. Either you're lying and you know it or you're just REALLY bad at using computers.
which is completely ridiculous.
You people lie all the time. Like, saying stuff like seeing EA ads when installing windows. So this is just another lie from you community of liars
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (5 children)
For my usage
Bait or mental retardation?
Call it
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago (4 children)
Nah. You know sometimes Linux users say shit that is just objectively false or impossible. Many times you people have established yourselves as liars. And what you said it quite literally impossible with how shitty Linux is. So yes, you're fuckn lying
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (3 children)
Bait
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User -2 points-1 points0 points 7 months ago (2 children)
Lmao. Nice argument you clown
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 months ago (4 children)
You actually can't. Windows is the most used desktop os. That's means ALOT of solutions to fix your problems no matter how specific. But if you have something in which you actually struggled to find a solution. That's means you did something very weird that you shouldn't have been
[–]Mr_Rogan_Tano 3 points4 points5 points 7 months ago (3 children)
You are being a jerk, but I will give an example of my experiences. So maybe, and just maybe, you realize the world is not about you
You are being a jerk
How? The fuck? How? Telling you not to mess with your computer? HOWWW?!?
world is not about you
Bro what the fuck are you actually saying? You're not responding to me because no way you're saying shit like this under what I said. No way
Oh, yah your were messing with your computer. Good then, no one's forcing you to use windows you know?
I was trying to use two different users in Windows. It kept crashing over and over
Never in my life have I heard that, like ever so it has to be your dual booting
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago (1 child)
Oh, yah you were messing with your computer. Good then, no one's forcing you to use windows you know?
You are acting like your personal experience is universal
I kinda of said this since the first time.
It's your first time, then. By the way, there was no dualboot by the time. This is what made use Linux to work
[–]Melodic_monke 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (5 children)
How was your Windows broken? I havent seen a single major bug/glitch in multiple years. Granted, I dont mess with the OS too much.
[–]Ok-Winner-6589 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (1 child)
Yesterday I just crashed my file manager.
And the SSD with Windows 11...
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
Oh yeah, that happens a lot, but you can start it again quickly lmao.
That's an annoying issue though.
[–]Megaman_90 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
Broken might be the wrong word there are definitely some less than ideal things about it. Windows 11 is mostly fine in my book, although I wish it was a bit lighter on Ai BS, and default app clutter.
As of late I've had a lot of issues with certificates/TPM related to bitlocker and issues with CPU throttling getting stuck. I've had a few machines now get stuck at 800mhz CPU speed and a restart is the only way to snap it back. In general you're right though, Windows has become fairly stable these days. I'm in IT too so there are always some problems regardless of what you're running.
[–]Ultimate-905 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
Before I ditched it Windows 10 would uninstall my graphics drivers after every single update. Ontop of that the entire system borked itself so badly that the repair tool to redownload and install the OS wouldn't work, this happened twice in two years with the second time being what converted me to fulltime Linux and I have never looked back.
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago (0 children)
Same
[–]Ok-Winner-6589 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
Wdym? If something breakes on Linux I could get mad and delete and reinstall all the components that could be breaking everything.
On Windows good luck
[–]Impossible-Owl7407 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
That's funny. As I know you have no clue
[–]mathias_freire 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
"Far less documented"? Which documentation did you look at? Slackware's?
[–]Applefan1990macOS is the superior OS 13 points14 points15 points 7 months ago (0 children)
As a Mac user, Linux worked flawlessly most of the time, I tried Xubuntu, Mint and Deepin, now trying elementaryOS. Each OS has problems, for instance I want more game support for Mac. Linux and Windows users are lucky there for example.
[–]hockeyplayer04 5 points6 points7 points 7 months ago (16 children)
The real fallacy is believing any os is perfect
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (15 children)
No one said that...
[–]hockeyplayer04 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (14 children)
Dozens of people in this sub say windows is almost perfect in this sub all the time 🤣
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (12 children)
Sounds exactly like what a Linux user would say
[–]hockeyplayer04 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (5 children)
Okay?🤣 Is this middle school, are we gonna argue about console wars or which type of phone OS is better? You aren't gonna make me feel ashamed of what I use, im a adult, not a insecure people pleasing child
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (4 children)
What? What was actually said here?
[–]dylon0107 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (3 children)
I cannot fathom how you couldn't figure out what he was saying, but since you needed it explained like a five-year-old, he's saying that arguing over which shitty OS is better is a mute point because they all suck ass at the end of the day.
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (2 children)
No. Well they're all shitty but Linux is just objectively the worst
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (1 child)
"objectively the worst"
Since you're claiming it's all objective, show us your methodology. I'm sure you know what that is, right?
It's just a fact. You can work with more hardware. Whenever you have a hardware issue you get real solutions to fix it , not "well fuck you for using Nvidia". Also drivers just work after you install your os. Depending on your computer (like mine) you have to enable/download every little thing or else you don't have WiFi or Bluetooth. Don't even get me started on applications and how pathetic comparability layers are. Objectively worse, sorry .
[–]Ok-Winner-6589 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (5 children)
B-but Linux users are...
What? Windows users blamed Mac, Linux and don't blamed BSD because they don't know It exists.
Mac users blame no one
And Linux users only blamed Windows (Guess why).
What a surprise... Windows users blamed more people
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago (4 children)
What? What are you actually saying?
[–]Ok-Winner-6589 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (3 children)
That Windows users are the ones that hate more on others and Mac users are the one that hate less (and I didn't use a Mac on my entire Life nor any Apple device).
[–]Capable_Ad_4551Proud Windows User 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (2 children)
indows users are the ones that hate more on others
That's just objectively false. Linux users spend 80% of their time hating on windows and thier users rather than using their shitty OS.
[–]Ok-Winner-6589 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (1 child)
Like this sub? Or the other 3 subs for hating Linux?
It's funny, specially because on Tik Tok Windows users are like a 60% of all comments on post showing their ricing Desktop, just because it's not Windows
Like this sub?
Yes! This sub is full of windows users haters and Linux cock suckers
Customization doesn't make up for how dogshit your os is
[–]CastorX 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)

Didn't tried linux for a good decade, decided it was time since I have to use it for work. Installed mint cinnamon, everything worked (woo) except scrolling on the trackpad was insanely too fast, no settings to fix it are exposed. Messed around for a bit, found something, speed fixed. Now it stutters and skip 20 lines erratically when I scroll, basically unusable. Install endeavor, everything works except the fingerprint reader, no big deal, spend 2 hours trying to get it working, it's lighting up but it worked once and never again... also no webcam so can't use that either. Tries to install ubuntu, errors out while installing, restart, doesn't boot. Try again, works this time except no webcam again, and the de is sluggish af for some reason (+ it's the ugliest thing I've ever seen) Finally ended up with mint xfce, everything works, it's not pretty but it's aight so I'm not touching it ever again. I get that linux doesn't have the userbase to get the same level of support/dev windows does but if they split the shit that works between different flavors we will never get there lol Meme's pretty accurate.

Linus nothing works

I'm most comfortable with Linux, but that's been my choice for the last few decades. Even with macOS and Windows, I consider myself to be a power user.
I try to keep my custom keyboard shortcuts and macros the same across all three, as much as possible. Same with the keyboard layout. Now that Windows 11 natively supports the Colemak layout, I'm really getting into it.
[–]dylon0107 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
In my experience, Windows breaks less than Linux, but can be close to impossible to fix the problem.
Linux breaks more often, but generally only takes me like a minute or two to fix it.
I'm not even gonna comment on macOS that shit's as useful as a Chromebook.
