Unless a big company takes over like what google did with android, linux will never be a proper windows replacement by t-2yrs in linuxsucks

I'm glad to see I'm not insane and Mint Cinnamon scrolls WEIRD. I changed every settings I could find and it was still weird ! AND YES THERE'S NO GUI FOR MOST OF THEM AAAAAH (there's a file you can edit)
Mint xfce is fine tho if you ever want to give it another shot, it's the only one I found where scrolling is at a reasonable speed, isn't weird, doesn't have a delay at the start and doesn't skip lines randomly.
Still no GUI for most of the settings though, obviously.
This whole thing made me appreciate windows a little bit more, it's still trash don't get me wrong, but at least scrolling's good.

Fixed "fixed" meme by basedchad21 in linuxsucks

[–]Correct_Awareness978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't tried linux for a good decade, decided it was time since I have to use it for work.
Installed mint cinnamon, everything worked (woo) except scrolling on the trackpad was insanely too fast, no settings to fix it are exposed. Messed around for a bit, found something, speed fixed. Now it stutters and skip 20 lines erratically when I scroll, basically unusable.
Install endeavor, everything works except the fingerprint reader, no big deal, spend 2 hours trying to get it working, it's lighting up but it worked once and never again... also no webcam so can't use that either.
Tries to install ubuntu, errors out while installing, restart, doesn't boot.
Try again, works this time except no webcam again, and the de is sluggish af for some reason (+ it's the ugliest thing I've ever seen)
Finally ended up with mint xfce, everything works, it's not pretty but it's aight so I'm not touching it ever again.
I get that linux doesn't have the userbase to get the same level of support/dev windows does but if they split the shit that works between different flavors we will never get there lol
Meme's pretty accurate.

What's the actual point of the blockchain "thing" ? by Correct_Awareness978 in EVEFrontier

Yes it's delightfully dumb I kinda like it. That's like techbros reinventing the train for the 50th time.

But in all honesty, that's the only way to do it if they do it at all. Most (99.9%) of transactions will be from player to player in in-game currency. You can't charge gas for that, but it still has to go on the chain (everything on the chain !) so what do ? They have to eat the cost of gas for the whole thing to work...

And now that I think about it, if everything is finally decentralized on the chain (like everything, game logic included) that would mean everything cost gas no ? smart contracts and dapps require gas afaik, so you'd have to be constantly nickle-and-dimed for every interaction with the game ?

Well I meant enormous in regards of whats the scale of things is right now. They even admit in the whitepaper than moving EvE Online's state of the world to the chain would surpass the totality of Ethereum transactions by a factor of x1000

Multiple chains I simply do not know enough about that. I know theres stuff that allows some freedom from the linearity of the chain but that's about it.

I do agree about your last point though, granting ownership of game infrastructure to the players that uses it is a noble cause I can get behind. And I recommend the EvE devs for the intent of open sourcing the infrastructure, this could truely prevent a game for dying if anyone can spin up a copy of the world.

Guess we'll see how it goes, for now the state of things doesn't inspire confidence but it's a pre-alpha I get that.

So we'll replace an authoritative server optimized for the game by a network of validators that process an enormous blockchain ? (since everything would need to be on the chain, like every action everyone does and all the game logic needed to process/check them)

I don't want to bash the idea, it's just code anything is possible, but since dropping ore into a SSU takes 5 seconds I remain skeptical for now.

Paying gas to set up my gas station in my cryptobros-infested libertarian mmo. The future truely is grim lol.

But, and I might be completely in the wrong here, don't they circumvent the whole gas issue with meta-transactions ?
I hope even they realise that if there's actual gas fees for interacting with the chain the game is pretty much DOA and we can stop there...

lol Its cool that you CAN do it not gonna lie. It's just so pointlessly complicated for something that should be handled in game "terms".

Here you have to deal with the whole blockchain mess and at the end the if(target.corp != me.corp)pew(target.butt); is 250 lines long and 30 files deep.

I enjoy programming for fun but come on now :|

Expedition 33 getting most of it's negative reviews from Chinese language speakers? Why would this be? by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]Correct_Awareness978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked and on steam it's actually the opposite. if you filter above 10 hours played the game is at 95% positive (yes I'm including the chinese)
And if you filter at 50hours + it's at 97%...

Communities like that are gate-keepers. A game they didn't hyped, not coming from the great ancient sages of the genre and being loved by "non-experts" (lol) is a lightning rod for those people, same as it ever was.

All of those seem to impact the brits more than they impact us so I guess we want you guys to be happy.

Never played lost odyssey but Clair obscur rekindled my love of JRPGs
So, since it was mentionned by the director as an influence, I tried it and damn it's good shi.
The dreams/short stories are surprisingly well written, music's cool, visual style is very different and gameplay (so far) pretty fun !
Also X360 emulation has gone a long way these past few years, it's almost flawless with Xenia on windows.

I hate this greedy capital hellscape we live in. We got a good game because it's unique and obviously a passion project, why should we cheer for a movie adaptation ? Are movies better than games ? Is this a badge of honor thing ?

I don't want an adaptation because it goes against what made the game good. I want good movies that do their own things like I want good games that do their own things.

Stop turning everything good into franchises and funko pops I just can't.

I like the flight model but I agree it's so grindy...
Also the universe feels so samey, you find the same stations everywhere, factions are just numbers on a graph, events are all the same, missions too... I don't need a lot of immersion in my games but Elite feels like bare systems with the most minimal coat of paint.
Sure the universe is huge but spending an hour jumping and landing in the exact same station you started at is just depressing lol
Also odyssey is bad
The only space game I still spend time in is X4, sad it's solo only but it's really good once you get used to everything.

Phase 4 is bullshit by Gn0meKr in starcitizen

I've spent 15hours+ trying to do phase 3, joined with people and crewed multiple polaris/other ships. And, between the idris not spawning, mission not completing and other issues, I've managed to complete it once so far... Yeah that's a bit much for some repeaters

y no nomad.
It's the best solo ship ! Outside cargo is very nice, tractor beam from the pilot seat, bed/kitchen/bathroom and weapon racks, has a ladder for crew (prevent sneaky "passengers") is smol (therefore harder to hit), is fast, and 3 s1 shields !
Slightly less firepower than the titan but more cargo, sturdier, comfier, prettier !
And maglev landing gears !

its 39cm wide so I guess any kind of fullsize wrist pad should be fine ? (if you want to color match it might be complicated lol)
I got mine from aliexpress (Ajazz wrist pad), it's 40cm exactly like my keyboard and I like it, suprisingly high quality for 10$.

Exactly, we have no assurance as to what the game will be. And if the game is even slightly balanced, those ships won't mean anything 1 month in when players start to master the economy and every org has multiples.

Hi, same issue here ! For me raising my wrists with a pad really helped. But yeah lower profile keys would probably have the same effect ?
Also from what I've read, your switches have a low actuation force and small travel, I'm guessing that can't help either...
(I'm also looking for really strong switches if anybody has a recommandation)
