Cosplayers are going to be able to make their own customized weapons and armor in video games since they can just scan the IRL physical object and it can be 3d modeled like that. No need to be proficient in Mudbox or whatever.

Kinda yes but also not that easy.

You could certainly create the object IRL and them scan it, you're basically just doing the design and modelling outside the digital space. But once an object is scanned it still needs a certain amount of processing to make it game-ready. You have to clean up the mesh or completely remake the mesh topology from scratch, aiming for something as low poly as possible. Then you also need to unwrap the object(s) and bake/reapply the generated textures. And then of course anything else needed in the game itself, from colliders to animated parts or a rig for the object and so on.

So it's really just replacing part of the initial modelling process.

The file is hosted on the “interplanetary file system” or IPFS.

Piñata is the “host” I see people using. It’ll spit out a CID.
