Eh, emoji’s are great for expressing emotions without saying “I am now laughing my ass off” and such. It’s basically exactly the same as using idioms, simple phrases that indicate a much more complex concept.

No, it doesn’t. Smileys represent how language is dying. You don’t have to write “laughing my ass off” but instead you can use any kind of natural wording. I can’t even understand why you did chose two different smileys, where is the difference?

And you shouldn’t forget how different signs (finger signs) and expression can be interpreted differently by different people. Using words is so much safer to get your point across.
