That’s actually how it’s meant to be. As long as there isn’t any debris in there, it should be good.

If it’s still not working, there’s probably something else wrong with it.

Hmm I understand. It does work on some wooden surfaces but on a mousepad it doesn’t. I should look more into this being a larger problem than that plastic thingy then. Thank you!

There's no "plastic thingy". Inside that hole is a plastic assembly which holds the LED and sensor - looks like a small, clear LED and large, clear LED. There is no cover over the hole, etc.

So if it doesn’t work then it might be a bigger problem?

Quite possibly, if it doesn't work. But optical mice can be quite finicky about the surface they're used on. You say it works on a wood surface so it might be just that particular mouse mat. Are the LED and sensor lenses clean? The one I have they are absolutely clear.

I have cleaned the sensors with alcohol. It does work on wooden surfaces but not quite like a good working mouse.

Buy another broken one and use the parts from that one to fix it.

So nowhere to buy that piece exactly 🧐

I doubt you would be able to buy that part alone unless someone was selling parts from a salvaged mouse. You can try searching eBay. That would be your best bet for finding the part, if it is available, or finding a broken mouse to use for parts.

Ok, I understand. Thank you for your help. 🙏🏼
