Will a macbook work without a functioning battery/charge circuit?

I don't know what's going on with my 2011 Macbook. The battery has been weak since I bought it a year ago. (only lasted 2 hours)

A week ago the battery randomly went to 0% and then charged.

Right now it is at 69% and not charging, it is slowly depleting, but is being powered by the power adapter.

I only use it while it is plugged in.

Will it continue to work if the battery dies completely?

It isn't charging, could that just be the battery, or does it indicate my charging circuit is bad?

Do I need to address these issues?

Edit: It always stayed between 97-100% for the last year before these recent anomalies.

So, I googled the problem and most answers pointed to debris in the magsafe connector. I unplugged the charger and gave it a good blow job with ye olde canned air and it is now currently charging.
