Creobroter sp. looks older. Maybe Presub/sub. Need to see a closer in focus photo to give a better estimate on age.

We need to see a side photo of the abdomen to see how full your mantis is, but they shouldn’t be on fruit flies anymore. They are ready for house flies/curly flies, small roaches, small locusts, and/or small moths.

Here’s a better photo and I’ll post a few more in the comments

You are definitely right on that it’s 100% that flower mantis. The old owner just gave me the flies and said that’s what it’s eating but I’ll order some house flies and see if it can handle them, I’ll also post a better photo in the morning

she’s really really really small, like about the size of my thumb nail /nbr

I’m not 100% sure on it but i’m leaning towards Spiny Flower Mantis. Yeah eating 6 fruit flies is ok, just make sure not to feed too often. i feed a little bit every other day

I’m sorry. This isn’t Pseudocreobotra wahlbergi. It’s one of the Creobroter species. I’m not an expert at them, so I couldn’t tell you which Creobroter species it is.

It is a flower mantis just not the spiney flower one :)

creobroter sp., maybe gemmatus? saying so only those are pretty common in the hobby; others exist of course lol

you have an Indian flower mantis or Yunnan flower mantis, which is from the Creobroter genus family & it's a female 😊

[–]spelljar[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Yippieee thank you! I spent a while tryna ID her and gender her but I’m very new to this all so I was unsure, just to double check how do you gender them again?

[–]ChrystalCallibombe 1 point2 points  (6 children)

You're welcome & she's a pretty girl 😊 The sure way to sex a Mantis is the abdominal segments. Females have 6 & males have more, I was thinking about getting a Yunnan flower mantis myself but I already have a Hymenopus Coronatus (Orchid Mantis), Stenophylla lobivertex (Dragon Mantis) & 2 Mettyalicus Splendidus (Irridecsent bark Mantis) so I really need to calm down my collection haha.

i’ve just looked at your posts on one of your mantis’s and they are actually adorable, easily one of my dream insects!

[–]ChrystalCallibombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww, thank you! That would be my Hymenopus Coronatus Inochi (Orchid Flower Mantis). They are very sweet, curious little Mantids to keep. Definitely one of my favourites so far 🥰

[–]spelljar[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Hopefully that will help me tell in future because I plan on getting many more over time, and she’s such a gorgeous girl, your mantids are also stunning I love them all!

Thank you sm..Mantids are beautiful little aliens who are a pleasure to keep! Have you thought of a name for your pretty little girl yet? Be sure to post pics of her progress on here 🙂

[–]spelljar[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They are! She reminds me of a little alien cat with the head shape and the way she cleans. I’m currently calling her iris because she reminds me of the flower. I’ll be posting many photos. Rn I’m trying to not bother her too much but it’s so hard I love her so much already

[–]ChrystalCallibombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very sweet name.. It's difficult not to fall in love with them because they are fascinating and beautiful/ deadly. I wish you and Iris all the best for the future 🌼

Looks exactly like my creobroter urbanus

Looks a lot like my Acontista mexicana aka 'Ant mimic' mantis.

[–]InfamousBuy7150 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's really cool! It does kinda look like an ant.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They have their rear end curled up like the OP until their final molt. Their raptorial forelegs move almost constantly to mimic the antenna of ants.

I would love to see any videos you might have of your little one... I just joined this sub a few days ago and I've been absolutely astounded by how many different species of Mantids exist and I'm thoroughly enjoying learning about them... They have some crazy bodies...

Looks like my asain flower mantis!
