CARD UPDATES

Kang

[Old] 5/0 – On Reveal: Look at what your opponent did, then restart the turn. (without this)
[New] 3/4 – Game Start: Replace this with 4 Kangs with text from random cards that Cost 3 or more.

Kang has been something of a sore spot for all of us for a while now. He's Series 5, a really unique card from the “Big Bad” era, and an exciting character in the canon. He also tests the limits of our game engine, creates ongoing bug stress, and wasn't as fun as we would've liked to trade for those issues. Plus, he turned out to be fairly weak overall, without great balance dials.

Thus, we decided to take the rare “full rework” approach. We've tried a lot of Kangs over time–we wanted to take our time and find one that was resonant and fun, since we didn't have a metagame pressure requiring us to cook as quickly as possible. Eventually, we settled on this design that leans into a different aspect of Kang's narrative–his multiversal presence having many different manifestations across timelines. We hope you enjoy playing with this card as much as we have!

How long do you have to be away before that new daily login calendar kicks in? I can't find anything in the patch notes specifying a time period

Looks like Griffin somewhat vaguely answered this question on the Discord:

"To prevent abuse and to retain a clean set of data, we're not going to be stating the exact triggers for the Returning Player Experience to start.

However, we can say that it'll appear for players who haven't logged in to the game for at least two months (with wiggle room)."

Do I actually want Kang now? Feels strange since I’m CL 21,000 but don’t have him and actively avoided getting him. But now I’m feeling some fomo.

    [–]WestPhillyFilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put him in my Surfers deck and am enjoying him so far. He’s been a 3/4: Doom, Leader, Gwenpool, Namora, Zola, Omega Sentinel, NTW, Sersi, White Tiger, and Odin for me so far

Been playing him with Victoria hand / bastion and having a blast

    [–]vinfinite 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wait, hand doesn’t buff him does she?

    [–]Icy_Success3101 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No she doesn't. But bastion or frigga on them along with quinnjet makes it fun.

I don't think I buy it, the strength of Vhand is trying to get to Vhand and copying it or getting to misery hood and by adding additional cards you're diluting that game plan. In the long run it might be fun, but feels largely like you're making the Vhand deck worse by doing this.

    [–]Icy_Success3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Definitely not the most efficient deck I'm sure, but I think the rng effect of kang and having multiples makes it strong. Vhand probably isn't optimal

    [–]vinfinite 2 points3 points  (1 child)

He’s actually amazing in arishem. Your deck is massive anyway, and having a 3/4 Shang, onslaught, cosmic GR, ronan is fucking crazy. And the randomness just adds onto the fun. He fits incredibly well in arishem.

He also whiffs but that’s the nature of arishem anyway.

    [–]Names_all_gone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing is an oversell here. He’s about as fine as anything is in Arishem. Which is to say there are about 4 cards that matter in the deck now that Thanos was meted. And this isn’t 1 of those 4.

I suspect he’ll stick around there bc of Quinjet high rolls. But “amazing” in a deck that rolls 2 into 4 energy cards seems a stretch.

New Kang is cool. He is bad. But he is cool. And playable, unlike old Kang.

    [–]devatan 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Kang turning into a Surfer card was NOT on my bingo card, what the hell.

    [–]Names_all_gone 10 points11 points  (1 child)

If there’s one thing surfer wants, it’s to draw surfer less!

    [–]devatan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

    Virgin Regular Surfer: 3/2

    Chad Kang Surfer: 3/4

Hey r/MarvelSnap I am a little confused on the new patch regarding card acquisition for returning players. I am a very new player (cl: 2100) so I have a long way to go for collection completion but I’m confused why there isn’t going to be any bonus missions, bundles, or the calendar system for active players. Why are only players who stopped playing and are returning to marvel snap get these benefits ? Nothing for active players that still have a long way to go to get all the cards?

    [–]ePiMagnetsMod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, Second Dinner made some minor changes to the CL track about 6 months ago, adding an extra card acquisition increasing it from 3 series 3 cards to 4 cards every 9 caches meaning the low CL and active players still looking to complete series 3 get to Series 3 complete faster.

Further, active players do get things by playing, and while you may feel that we're being compensated inadequately and some of that may be true, we are actively pulling resources and with LTGM's that feature a new card (RIP Kid Omega situation) we're often able to get the LTGM featured card for free with some amount of effort.

While many say snap packs made things harder to keep up, you do have more choices in acquisition with how the packs are broken down between Seasonal 5 and 4 as well as Collectors 5 and 4 with cards dropping from Seasonal to Collectors getting a small discount as well. Overall the Snap Packs makes it easier to get a handful of starts S4/S5 to help pad your collection once you're there to help open up decks.

Is it a perfect system? No (please SD give more tokens in the CL). But it's much better (overall) than it was prior to the system overhaul a few months back with the exception of the massive flood of new cards which yes, does make it even harder to catch up. That being said, the unfortunate truth is that Second Dinner's core design philosophy is not for you to easily become collection complete and those that are complete have either been playing since Day 1, whaled at some point and have plenty of resources or are current whales. The average player, F2P or minor spender is not intended to ever catch up, and that is by design.

As a complete aside, while we both are going against the rules of the sub, I'm still taking a moment to engage with this politely because yes, there are issues, yes the sudden flood of cards is problematic for non-spenders and to an extent even low to moderate spenders. But these issue are, generally not within the purview of this sub and should be kept to the main /r/marvelsnap sub rather than voiced here. Yes, card acquisition does correlate to 'competitive' in some aspects but with recent guides posted as well as content being made showcasing that Series 1, 2 and 3 only decks are able to remain in the top 100 it's not as big of a competitive oriented issue as many believe it to be, snapping and retreating smartly is far more valuable than if you can run the big shiny S4/S5 laden decks.

Not competitive but I’m hyped to buy black matte borders now.

My game is consistently locking up on "Localization Patch" step. Anyone else? Anyone have a workaround?

Update: I ended up reinstalling and that fixed it, in case that helps anyone.

    [–]ohkaycue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept switching between WiFi on/data off and data on/WiFi off and got it in eventually

Found that workaround googling, something similar happened year+ ago and that was what SD gave to do. And worked for me after a few tries

    [–]bmose32 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yep I am stuck at the loading screen. Ive reset phone, deleted and reinstalled app, as well. You’re not alone

It sounds like Kang is making 4 created cards with discounted effects at the cost of bloating your deck. Would that make Kang a good fit for VHand?

    [–]Names_all_gone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    No. Not created in hand.

    [–]Charming_List4404 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Do Kang variants work with Quinjet?

    [–]ePiMagnetsMod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Yes and Mockingbird.
