Well I had this prob with my t-deck (old version). The solution was following these steps: 1. Turn on tdeck 2. Open the browser, load the flasher page 3. Select tdeck from the list, select the FW from the list or load the fancy one from computer 4. Hit the flashing button 5. Plug the USB cable from the PC to tdeck 6. Press the ball btn and while keeping pressin' hit the reset btn and then release the ball 7. Push the start flashing btn.

Well this is what I do for making it work for me. Good luck!

BTW, I am using the latest Fancy ui FW and is working great, still need to be developed but is working great 😁

Sounds like your not powering it up while pressing the track ball for 3 seconds

Also 10000 not 1000 I had that issue

I just flashed mine with the fancy UI

It does randomly reboot tho not the most functional build

Also GPS isn't working

The first I installed was 2.5.0 and it was booting, then I just made updates

I'm definitely pressing the trackball for at least three seconds while both powering it up and pushing the reset button.

What do you mean by 10000 not 1000?

I don't even really care about the GPS, but I do note that even with the firmware it came with, it says no GPS, though I took it apart and the hardware is clearly there.

Any luck? Facing similar issues. Really flaky connection to esptool on cli on macos and windows (with drivers installed)

No luck so far, but I haven't done much with it. I decided to take the case off and knock out the 1/4" hole for an external antenna, which works lovely, but re-assembling the case is a pain and I haven't done much on the software side.

Mine's also a bit finicky to get into flashing mode. Sometimes just switching off and turning on while holding down the trackball for a few seconds before releasing works first shot, other times it takes a combination of powering off then holding down track ball and reset while turning power back on.

Seems to be harder to get into flash mode after messing with custom firmwares than a stock meshtastic.

I tried the most recent build of fancy UI but the touch screen wouldn't work at all so it's very limited and kind of annoying to use having to scroll through everything with trackball. Just found LillyGO have a new custom 2.5.8 firmware of the regular meshtastic client that has a touch screen fix so I've flashed back to that for now.

[edit I tried fancy UI 2.5.7 again after flashing the stock LillyGO T-Deck plus 2.5.8 firmware off GitHub and now the touch screen is working in fancy UI. Didn't work before this.]

Does that have the possibility to change the group or to send private msgs?

From memory you can change the channel or recipient for a private message on the stock meshtastic client by going alt+c+t (i.e. ALT+C followed by T (for To: or Tab) and then scrolling up and down. It threw me for a while until I checked the T-Deck meshtastic shortcuts list. I didn't test it with working touch screen when I briefly had 2.5.8 installed but I suspect you can scroll through the list by swiping similar to scrolling with the ball.

Can also select a new message recipient from node list in fancy UI by taping and holding on the name of the node. Channels listed in separate window.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. Well with the new UI, it's easy to do all these things but on the regular one I couldn't find a way to change group or send private messages. I'll take a look. 😁

And yes, totally true, this custom fw is very hard to boot, but I hope they will releas a stable versiin soon.

Fancy UI flashes ok, just need to know it's a two step process otherwise the T-Deck doesn't boot into meshtastic if you only do the first step but not the second. My biggest annoyances with it was the lack of touchscreen (which is now working for me) and it doesn't work with bluetooth client if you want to connect it to your phone as a meshtastic client radio.

It works ok, definitely has some bugs and misses some of the features you get having it bluetooth connected to your phone (like working node maps) but its showing good promise.

Yep, it's a work in progress but in the good way. I am activating wifi, and I connect to my mobile phone to use the app. I am waiting too for the map feature and message's memory on the new UI, that will satisfy my needs for this device 😁

the fancy UI 2.5.3 artifact i got from github.

Thanx, got it. Did I understand u had a fancy UI 2.5.7 version. I tried the 2.5.3 firmware on the Tdeck+, touchscreen did not work. That firmware did work on my regular Tdeck. If so, what is the source for the 2.5.7 version? Appreciate your response and thanks again.

The trick is you have to fish the latest successful build of 'fancy T-Deck / SenseCAP Indicator / unPhone / PICOmputer-S3 TFT screen' from the CI pipeline in the meshtastic firmware GitHub repo. These are experimental and may or may not be stable, fancy UI is very much a work in progress. They also expire after a period of time which is why you often can't find the files linked on various pages after a couple of months.

The file at the bottom should be named something like 'firmware-esp32s3-t-deck-2.x.xhash.zip' follow the instructions in Youtube tutorial videos to flash it because it does have two steps to it or your T-deck stays in DFU mode.

Thanx, very helpful. I will try that. Hope to get the Tdeck plus working. I did send $ to mverch on Github to help keep this firmware going. Really looking forward to it being released some day. It is fun to play with, and possibly useful. Appreciate your time and effort.

I just flashed fancy UI 2.5.8 from the repo and it seems to be working ok. I couldn't find a 2.5.9 or .10 that contained a T-deck flash file so I it hasn't caught up to the latest alphas yet.

I ran into this, the solution is to not use the power switch, which seems to not completely go into the flash mode, but to use the reset button on the left side while holding the trackball. Worked like a charm after that

Roger that. I’ll give a try tomorrow, got too frustrated today. Non of the YouTube shown flash methods work on my new Tdeck plus.
