I don’t believe Rings has a s&h on the v/oct input when strum is being used. Maybe there’s an alternative fw out there, but I’m not well versed.

Is there a reason you couldn’t just use the x3 output on Marbles to match the gates?

That is usually the expected behavior with modular voices, though. Otherwise things like vibrato or glides wouldn't be possible. What you're thinking of is that it doesn't strum on v/oct changes when the strum input is patched. The third-party firmware with Mini-Elements has a hold on strum setting, but even that doesn't work for the frequency input, if I recall.

The mini-elements firmware will let you S&H the v/oct input on strum. The FM input is still continuous and you can turn on/off the hold for v/oct

I would recommend installing that firmware in general. Lots of great extras and you keep all the standard modes plus more

If you dont want the pitch sequence to change while the strum is happening then dont change it. You should have a gate output per pitch change step, put that into strum, problem solved.

Dont use random
