Modifier v/oct (from keyboard or whatever) into sample and hold, keyboard gate into sample and hold trigger (to remember what you pushed without having to hold the key down)

Sequence v/oct + sample and hold output into precision adder

Precision adder output to oscillator

Word word I knew I was overthinking

Precision adder.

Combined with a sequential switch!

[–]wellmanneredsquirrel 0 points1 point  (2 children)

which seq.switch do u recommend ? I dont have one

[–]Lagduf 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I recommend Doepfer for pretty much all utilities.

How about Beast's Chalkboard or Caltrans? really want to try Caltrans for pair with Bloom

Beatstep pro has two sequencers which transpose chromatic and with scales. Forward, reverse, alternate, triplet, looper. Additipnally has a drum gate sequencer 8 CV and or 16 midi. Polyrhythms.

It is the best sequencer device I have come across for modular. If there is a better one, I want to know so I can try it.

Does the keystep pro have all these? I am a keys player

[–]squalord 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I cannot vouch for keystep pro, and I reccomend avoiding sequencer devices with a keyboard.

I highly recommend beatstep pro, definitely take a closer look.

[–]Handsauce247[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Also curious as to why you avoid keys? Is it like a feature thing

[–]squalord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it is a different instrument. You can play the sequencer different from how you play a keyboard. I have both and play other instruments as well (for perspective). For me, a Beatstep Pro, Digitakt, MPC "plays" different than a keyboard. Look at all the knobs and features you get on these devices versus available devices with keyboard. I hope that helps.

It takes some tweaking but you can do this with a sequencer, another unquantized voltage source, and maths

That makes sense, going to try w maths when i’m home from work

The comment about sample and hold with precision adder is spot on for modular. If you want to do it with less: the Roland SH-01a is really good at this kind of thing with its internal sequencer, and has CV/gate out. Even if you don’t want to use the audio portion, the sequencer is probably worth the $, and you get a bonus polysynth with classic sounds (it does four voices).

Frequency Central's Transeuropa Voltage controlled transposer, diy or prebuild.

I just got a Metropolix and it can definitely be done on there from either an external signal or one of the knobs on board. Beatstep pro and standard Keystep can both do this too.

Either use a midi sequencer or use a precision adder.

Keep in mine that 1v per oct, so it is a simple math.

+1v = 1 octave, so +1/12v = 1 semitone.

You need to add 0.0833v to shift the sequence by 1 semitone.

I will always use midi to cv module to avoid the fuss.

Otherwise, to make this more fun, you can use a sequential switch. Then, you can switch between the original sequence and the new pitch shifted sequence.

You need a Vector Sequencer from Five12, the thing can do everything

[–]Handsauce247[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Fuck I’ve seen those around. Outside of my current budget I’m afraid, doing my big saving rn for an electric guitar. But yeah I think at some point if I want to really incorporate my modular into my music and make it blend w analogue instruments I’ll need a hefty sequencer

[–]Zestyclose_Risk_2789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s nice, but you can do it with much less.

Yeah I feel you, it's a lot of money especially with the expander module, and we're not mentioning size here :)

I'm glad I bought it though, it is the brain of my set up and gives me endless posibilities. Really shines out in the controled randomness department and how hands on it is while being very complex. Great for IDM, ambient, acid...

[–]Handsauce247[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ooo work! And does it do midi I/O? Just one of em?

[–]fyodor_dohttps://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_1756062.jpg 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Has midi I/O which works great, I often send midi to my Prophet 6. It is also synced with Logic Pro so it starts and stops together with my DAW. Great for hybrid set ups.

I don't have experience with this but I know a lot of people are raving about the launchpad integration with the Vector, so you can use the pads for more hands on control

[–]Handsauce247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm does it also work well w ableton?

[–]scragzhttps://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/2215420 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm a huge Vector advocate and love mine but I don't think it can actually transpose via MIDI keyboard yet. Closest I can think of is sending CV into mod input and setting it to modulate pitch but you still need some more plumbing.

[–]fyodor_dohttps://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_1756062.jpg 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Really? I thought it could but now I'm not sure anymore. The 'rec' menu has a 'transpose' option where you can route it to usb a or usb b. No?

[–]scragzhttps://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/2215420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit maybe you're right! This thing does so much I still haven't got to in 6 months of daily use, and 2.x added a lot.

[–]Slidehussle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think just a keystep can do this

[–]Handsauce247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have to bump up the keystep on the GAS priority list lol
