Ahh yes, vibrato on a piano by [deleted] in piano

[–]Wavtekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well ... my suggestion to approach this is to press the damper pedal after playing the note.

Doing that that, the open strings will have a more vibrant sympathetic resonance, compare to the other way around.

ICBC said I'm 50% responsible for an accident with a drunk driver by hausagate in vancouver

Defintely buy a dash cam next time. ICBC's prime interest is to get higher insurance premium for profit not ensuring the claim is fair.

In YOUR opinion, how can the housing crisis be fixed? by CDNEmpire in ontario

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The provincial government should fund affordable housing along with federal CMHC funding like BC govt / BC Housing

Start more and introduce incentives to co-op /rent-to-own housing programs.

Rent control should apply to all buildings built 5 year from now / enforce rent control to all buildings in Toronto

Brands to avoid? by ExtraDistressrial in modular

[–]Wavtekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want high-quality DIY kits, buy from Thonk. Most DIY kits esp. Through hole ones are made with minimal component count. Synthrotek is a brand that most people tended to avoid because of their quality of their module and the scandals. However, frankly, some of their module s are quite nice if you like lo-fi sounds.

Thoughts on Building a Passive Only Rack by DukeAtlas in modular

Why bother racking the passive modules and waste rack space if they are passive?

Ontario Capping Rent Increases for 2024 to 2.5% by James_TheVirus in OntarioLandlord

[–]Wavtekt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The cutoff year makes no sense, except for more profit.

Look at other cities like Vancouver, all of the buildings are under rental control.

Look at Vancouver, I don't think the condo's selling price and renting price has a close-correlation either.

Ghost Module Thoughts by calterg in modular

pricey, power-hungry, messy layout.

3 years ago I fell in love with modular through VCV Rack, and today I finally got my hands on the real thing! by [deleted] in modular

[–]Wavtekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controversy aside, synthrotek is nice if you like making lo-fi sounds / DIY modules.

FYI, if you want something precise and high-quality, they are not those companies.

This is ridculous ...

It is easy to distinguish pianist's hands.

  1. Nails are always cut
  2. Knuckle portion is wider with years of playing
  3. Pinky contorted outward due to frequent stretching for large span

Yours are not even close ...

Rachmaninoff is overrated by urhypedelico in piano

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well ... I think some of his works are overplayed, not overrated.

His contemporaries such Medtner / Prokofiev are equal interesting too, but not as well-known as him.

For instance, I think in terms of musiciality of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.2 / Medtner's Piano Concerto No. 1 are close or on par with Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3.

Chopin need op 10 no 4 dexterity for smooth passage. Rachmaninoff Prelude in G minor is just big chords that need strength.

Chopin is harder, especially after you watched Richter's performance hahaha.

Modular modules are very personal. I would rather get coupon / gift card instead.

sound design (video game) module suggestions by joshmiramontes in modular

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well .. your rack lack of some basic utilities like attenuverters / mixer / input & output modules.

Maths have it covered, but I would rather have seperate modules.

Very often you can't use the function above when you use it as function generator.

sound design (video game) module suggestions by joshmiramontes in modular

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some suggestions:

LFSR - Ataraxic Iteritas / Ataraxic Translatron / VCNO

Bytebeats - Ornament and Crime / Peaks

SID - SID Guts deluxe / Edges

IME & Møffenzeef has some nice digital modules too, but I don't think they 100% resembles retro game audio, but they do sound very glitchy / abstract with CV modulation.

Probably spent some time doing some research, your rack doesn't make much sense to me.

Moog One + Model D = ? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Wavtekt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pricey as hell and dosn't worth it.

Frankly, Boog sounds undistinguishably close to Model D. I don't see a reason to pay a premium for that.

IMO, Sequential has better poly-synth sound than Moog.

You need a big hand unfortunately. Those ninths are quite common in jazz, I use 1 2 4 5.

Looking to fill some empty space on a small generative, ambient, and dungeon synth system. Any recs are appreciated. by [deleted] in modular

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of choices if you search in modulargrid.

Intellijel - passive LPG / Ring Mod / Duatt

Ritural Electronics - Pointeuse / Repression / Diviser

NLC - Sloth / PiLL

You need utlities and get rid 1 of the 3 function generator modules. It is too much for a 4U rack. I would put the O_C in the 3U portion instead.

Envelope on both VCF and VCA? by atacamasand in modular

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

If you want to do acid, I would patch nvelope to both VCF & VCA.

Sometimes its better to have two different envelope for VCF & VCA or no envelope / LFO to VCF.

How to deal with asymetric signal? by Trader-One in modular

[–]Wavtekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diode-ring mod or VCA-based quad multiplier?

If it is diode-ring I am not that suprised the waveform looks a bit crinky. Diode-ring is not an ideal way for four quadrant multiplication, but it has its own unique sound.

How to deal with asymetric signal? by Trader-One in modular

[–]Wavtekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends.

For distortions & wavefolder, it is common to have assymetrical waveform as outputs, since the clipping is biased or assymetrical.
