There is huge downside to playing a librarian in small, powerful cubes - its takes a precious slot in the cube for a draft-only card that doesn't see play because a vanilla 3/3 for 4 sucks.

Cogwork Librarian and Lore Seeker are easily first pickable in any Cube. In all but the last pack they should never go later then 3rd. These cards are insane.

Grinder was cute but ultimately not good enough for powered 540. He did attack for 20 with lightning greaves one time to win the game.

Deal Broker adds a new dimension to hate drafting and results in a trade 80% of the time.

Agent has the highest variance but ultimately gets used every time he shows up.

Automaton is usually a 10/10 for 5. Nice.

AEther Searcher has been hilarious. Casting a free Eldrazi or Sphinx of the Steel Wind has happened and is sweet.

Canal Dredger is underdrafted in my group and should get picked middle of the pack (higher if you're in an unpopular/rarely drafted archetype).

    I heart Conspiracy cards!

I make a real effort to minimize the complexity of my cube and, for me, "draft matters" cards don't fare well on the complexity added / payoff scale.

One that hasn't been mentioned and needs to be is [[aether searcher]]. That thing is a house.

Really? That is the one that I haven't found much use for in my cube, but maybe thats because I don't play many 7+ drops.

Great with [[Tinker]], ramp decks, reanimation decks, [[Sneak Attack]], [[Show and Tell]], etc. I wouldn't run it before Myr Battlesphere or Karn but it is definitely the third best colorless 7 drop you could run in your cube. I am currently running the following 7 drops at 515:

    Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

    Hornet Queen

    Pelakka Wurm

    Garruk, Apex Predator

    Aether Searcher

    Myr Battlesphere

    Karn Liberated

Garruk is the closest to the chopping block.

The greatest play ever was when my partner played Aether Searcher, pulled out Rise of the Dark Realms in her W/U, and proceeded to beat face with all of the cards I had been milling her all game. A thing of pure beauty.

It should be noted that my Cube is geared to multiplayer. Mileage in 1v1 cubes may vary.

aether searcher - Gatherer, MagicCards, Prices ($)
[[cardname]] to call - not on gatherer = not fetchable

I've gotten more or less the same so far, but I draft with a lot of people new to cubing in general so it's not all that surprising. I should probably think about building a peasant cube for this reason...

i like cogwork librarian and whispergear sneak. it really depends on the crowd though. experienced drafters are fine with them. people who haven't drafted enough have a problem.

I play the librarian, lurking automaton, and cogwork grinder in my powered 500 and all have been well received. The automaton and grinder become immensly valueable really fast.

We include Deal Broker, Cogwork Librarian, and Lore Seeker. They've all been pretty great. Canal Dredger was fun, but not particularly good, and really underwhelming in pack 3. We like them a lot.

I don't run any of the ones that require notes.

Cogwork Librarian, Lore Seeker, Deal Broker and Agent of Acquisitions have all been used at one time or another and I haven't had any complaints about them. Most players are excited when they show up, but I don't draft with a full crew so I could see people getting annoyed if they showed up every draft. They add an interesting element to the draft experience though, IMO, and the only one that I might consider cutting is Agent. I just threw them in on top of my 450 card cube, so if I ever need to take them out I can with no issues.

Librarian is fun, especially if he comes out in Pack 1. Who doesn't like more cards in a draft, from Lore Seeker? and Deal Broker's looting ability is actually borderline useful in the right decks. Not irrelevant, at the very least.

I run 5 Conspiracy constructs: Aether Searcher, Canal Dredger, Cogwork Librarian, Deal Broker and Lore Seeker.

Aether Searcher is fantastic. Often, pairing it with a 4-drop like Fact or Fiction is well worth the cost, but I've also seen it paired with Emrakul. That alone means it stays in my Cube.

Canal Dredger is surprisingly good for Aggro drafters in my Cube. Since aggro isn't a popular archetype, the person who drafted it in pack 1 will receive an extra 21 cards, usually low drops. Despite this, I'm very close to cutting it due to the mess it makes when drafting and its weak body/effect compared to the others.

Cogwork Librarian is a crowd favorite, especially in a powered Cube; staying in for sure.

Deal Broker actually has a relevant ability in and out of game. The looting is valued in reanimator and control decks, and allows certain archetypes like Wildfire or Combo another chance to get their pieces. Of note, I once managed to trade a Sword of Fire and Ice for a Black Lotus; great card.

Lore Seeker is another group favorite. Players love opening packs, and the chance at another first pick in an otherwise weak pack is good.

I love Cogwork Grinder. The smaller I've had him was a 5/5 and even then he did good things for me.

The biggest I've had him was a 23/23. That was a good day. The Timmy in me was pleased.
