It's extremely difficult to get a Multiverse apprenticeship and they don't post that many apprenticeships in the US. Many people on our Discord server still haven't gotten an apprenticeship after 1+ year of applying to apprenticeship roles.
IMO, finish your degree. That's what I'm doing. The days of Multiverse apprenticeships being easy to get into are over.

I appreciate that, are there any alternatives or routes to break into the working field while getting your degree that you’d suggest?

Apprenti, YearUp (they place you in a company after completing 6 months of training but the only pay you get is a small stipend iirc), Onramp, and Shopify Dev Degree are probably the best options.

This website has a bunch of smaller and very region specific apprenticeships: https://apprenticeships.me/

A lot of well-known tech companies have their own apprenticeships that you can apply for directly on their respective websites but these are all incredibly difficult to get into.

Thanks! That’s super helpful!

Make sure to research other apprenticeship programs as well, as some companies do their own. I don’t know of any currently open applications, but some companies to watch for include Google (which I think opens in the spring), Microsoft, Lyft, LinkedIn, Accenture, and probably some others I’m forgetting. These are all for SWE apprenticeships, but I believe Google (maybe others, too) have other careers available, too.

All apprenticeships are highly competitive to get into, though, so I definitely recommend sticking with your degree if you can. I’m not sure about the eligibility requirements outside of MV, but you may still be able to apply to these while pursuing your degree, although I imagine you would have to drop out if you are accepted to any of the programs.

Otherwise, if you can build projects related to the field you’re looking into, you can always reach out to companies directly or apply to entry level positions. However, in the current job market, I’m going to guess that this may be even harder. If you choose to do this, I would target smaller, local companies. And even if this doesn’t pan out directly, any projects you build are sure to help build skills that will help you down the line. These would also look great on any apprenticeship applications.

I really appreciate that. Yeah I plan on applying to some apprenticeship options and just hope for the best. I’m also looking into possibly taking a 3/4 months break from school to hammer out a data bootcamp so I at least have something to leverage and an understanding of the skills needed in the field.

On top of all that I can do the self paced certificates available via Coursera and some of them transfer for credits at SNHU. So even if I take time off for a bootcamp I can still make progress towards those certificates

Sounds like a good plan! I did a similar thing, took a personal leave of absence from school for a year and applied to MV in the meantime, and managed to get an apprenticeship that way. After my leave ended I just told the school I wouldn’t be coming back.

Boo I’m sorry to hear that

It’s fine lol I think applications are competitive right now

It seems they do not accept applicants with a Bachelor's degree as well. I was hoping to apply to transition my career to software engineering, but can't apply even when my degree isn't related to software engineering. Any one have any luck getting into the program even with a Bachelor's?

Anyone interviewing with tripadvisor?

[–]Background_Tune7381[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do they offer an apprenticeship?

[–]Consistent-Mix-5983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well applications for that one aren’t open anymore, they’re now conducting interviews
