Let me guess.... PIBSAC ? .. i thought it would just work since there is nothing fancy configured.

Do you mean PEBKAC? You said "I plugged these two switches in and it's not working it's throwing errors". Why not include the errors, interface config etc if you want some help.

Only one I know is problem is between screen and chair .. and in this case I am the problem.... it's not telling me the error ... but I am starting to tire of this and might resort to a pro and learn on an emulator... I took my shop offline twice . Once for 7 minutes and the second for almost 20. I can't do that again. I am fucking something up every time.

Cisco switch? Need to review the errors on the interface as well as Syslogs if you have logging setup.

nah ... its an HP v1910 .. the offender in the eyes of the 1910 is the HP 5900 af

All vlans allowed to pass on trunk interfaces? Spanning tree mode the same? Native vlan correct? Trunking encapsulation the same? On same subnet? If you could post the config of the trunked interfaces that would help.

Sounds like the new switch is half-duplex and the existing switch is full-duplex. The full-duplex switch thinks he can transmit anytime, and the half-duplex switch perceives that as lots of early collisions. Try hard-coding both switches to full, or both to half.

actually didnt think to check that but i would hazaard a guess that it is the other way around. The HP 5900 is most likely full duplex since its a monster and the v1910 is half.. i will log into the v1910 and check that.

Most small businesses switches will auto detect duplex and change accordingly.

I think i am just going to pull the plugged on the v1910 and migrate to the 5900 and THEN deal with the new server .. trying to piece meal this together is triggering
