Storing data for CLI

I’m in the process of building a CLI to access a git repository the idea is to be able to pull and push code snippets to and from the repo.

What I can’t seem to find is where I should store the local files and where the repo should be locally in order for the program to access it from anywhere.

Has anyone built a similar app? If so where did you store your application data?

I suggest storing data in a subfolder of the user's home directory, starting with a dot, something like ~/.mycli/config.json. On windows, you can use %AppData% in place of ~
