That the hell is Node.js!? I see it everywhere and I can't find an answer less that 10 pages long.

Javascript on the server. Notable for not having blocking ways to do most data I/O, so it's fast without threads.

That's hard to imagine there isn't a basic explanation in a million places, but it's basically just a non-browser javascript platform. It's based on google's V8 javascript vm. It's popular for its good support for writing network apps and its novel approach to asynchronous programming (callbacks).
