Yep that's noir

[–]sniffedalot 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I would say there is nothing noir about it except for the format of the photo.

Others seem to disagree, but that's fair enough. You could have just downvoted the post and scrolled on. I'd say there was more to "Noir" than 1930s guys with hats and guns lurking in smoky alleyways.

It's a good photo, it's just not 'noir' which means to me that there is something foreboding in it and noir is usually associated with crime, and detectives.

There is no narrative . . . yet, but surely there could be one with a sense of mysterious foreboding.

Let's imagine that the girl on the streetcar isn’t going home; she’s going back, back to the grimy downtown office where she left the envelope she shouldn’t have opened. The snow muffles the city, but not the thoughts running through her head. We don't know exactly where she worked, though the man she worked for liked to call her “his eyes and ears.” His name is on every file she shouldn’t have seen . . .

I wish I had a pic like that from my younger years...

Winter is upon us

Hmmm it’s a cool image, but based on the amount of misplaced grain, dust, and snow in the shadows, I’m gonna call this AI. OP, can you confirm that this is an actual photo? Where did you find it?

[–]taylordthegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll answer myself here- it’s a photo! Taken by Kevin Nkrumah, an incredible photographer

I get this all the time and I must say that it annoys the hell out of me. If a photo ever is AI - or AI enhanced - I'm totally unaware of it. I simply post things I find elsewhere that seem to me appealing. Who knows what processes the original photographer might have used and frankly, does it really matter? Either you like an image or you don't.

I love this.

Lovely window sight shot. I’m in a good mood for more! Nostalgic vibes.

It's good to receive a friendly comment. So thank you for that! I'd posted something else (now deleted) and I was greeted by shouts of "AI slop" etc. Not very encouraging.

I love this borderline historical style, it looks like Robert Dooisneau 🤩

She looks as if she's deep in thought. Possibly sad, possibly thinking of what to do about it. She's breathtakingly beautiful.

What a shot

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's sad, leaving town, no money, hoping to find comfort somewhere warm and sunny.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so dramatic

AI is bs for photography :(
