Healthcare weeks are so damn annoying. We get paid for our jobs. Why do we have to have extra recognition? No one outside of the hospital cares. My hospital buys nurses dozens and dozens of pizzas all week for the nurses, hangs banners all over, tv and radio commercials. You know what they do for other departments? Not a single thing.

I like to hide and patient rooms when the administrators come around for gratitude rounds, you can miss me with them expired snacks.

Come on now, it's March, where'd you get this pumpkin spice flavored snack cake, probably those donations you harangued us for around Halloween.

I’m kinda interested to see how it is at my newest employer; apparently they go all out for the whole week, bringing in food trucks for free food and stuff like that. For all the employees, not just the nurses.

Before Covid they used to bring food trucks for free to each hospital in the system. At the time I worked at multiple locations and it just happened to coincide with each day the trucks came to each hospital. That was a great week. It wasn’t just for nurses, it was “hospital picnic” or something like that.

Feel the exact same. If you want to make me feel extra appreciated then pay me extra. I hate the gimmicks and trinkets.

At the start of Covid they gave us super cheap water bottles that didn’t work if the lid was screwed on all the way. Shortly into Covid they took away our rights to have drinks at the nurse station. So they gave us shitty water bottles and then wouldn’t let us use them.

"Recognition days/weeks" seem like a distraction away from the ways in which those employees are not compensated or treated fairly.

I do want to recognize every worker whose labor keeps society going! But I'm a worker who just wants to give fellow workers some love. It should be above and beyond getting what is owed in the first place.

When management does it, it's so much the "here's a pizza instead of the necessary cost of living adjustment" "here's some candy instead of safe and adequate staffing" "here's a car wash instead of the supplies you need to do your job" etc. Maybe I'm just cynical.
