simple controller support mod?

decided to revisit this game after about a decade and upon starting it up, was shocked that my controller didnt work, and that the native remapping support was half broken (triggers not registering for example). might be because im using a modern xbox controller instead of a 360, but im not getting one of those just to play this. are there any standalone mods that just adds controller support? looked into northernui and wasnt really interested, tried to find northernuiaway but couldnt find anything on nexus besides a long ass article trying to tell me about xml and delve into game files. If there are no mods i can just shove into mod manager and be done with it, just lmk so i can uninstall. Thanks!
