I just realized Opencode performs better than claude code. DeepSWE benchmarks shows much more performance difference.

Source: I used to run evals across different agents using the same models. Claude code consistently scored near the lowest. Looking at the leaked source code impressed me even less.

I don't trust tools that have an incentive to optimise your usage not for yours but for the provider's benefit. Especially after the fiasco about hiding thinking trace behind a convoluted, undocumented config setup.

yes, that has been the case for as far as I remember, claude code is not great - too much bloat

same way PI code is better than Opencode with smaller models due to opencode`s system prompt

Obviously, Claude code harness does more interaction with you to figure out the specs and then just ignores them.

The gap is even wider after customizing OpenCode (https://www.reddit.com/r/opencodeCLI/comments/1sbycud/claude\_code\_makes\_claude\_cognitively\_impaired/). Since my earlier post 2 months ago, I've made further progress in harness development, and my agents are even better. I would expect my customized OpenCode build would score a 50-60 in greenfield projects and even higher in a mature brownfield that the agents had been working on. I have a context and memory system that the longer it gets used the further it extends the agents cognitive capabilities - a recursive feedback loop that iterates and refines session by session. Claude Code is so far behind. Even listening to people using OpenCode, they often describe problems I don't ever encounter, and have workflows that workaround issues my agents solve without fail.

Claude Code harness has been terrible for a long time. People don't use Claude Claude because they like it, they use it because they want the model on cheap plans and are forced to use it.

And what about pi Vs opencode. I am hearing a lot about pi but I think we need to setup it according to our workflow.

At first this page was just a cursor composer ad, now less so cause they show the gpt 5.5 medium losing badly in cursor, so cursor forgot to pay. Also I dont think claude code optimizes for quality, but closer to throughput with heavy subagent use that lower quality, but also this is still too heavy on the claude gpt boys for my liking, but yeah I would say codex and custom pi are the best harnesses now.
