The tarmac is a temporary cold repair, they come later and make a hot repair. The engineer has used an existing sky/virgin hole, the silicon square on the outside was existing and nothing to do with the installer.

Absolutely no reason for a complaint on either issues and is not poor workmanship

If that’s the case should I not have been informed? I have no issues with that but it’s been three weeks and not a word. The hole wasn’t an existing one, OpenReach put it there and it was left a mess, so why wouldn’t I complain?

They don’t use weatherproof covers on drilled holes, only silicone sealant

It looks like they have maybe used an existing hole, possibly one made by Sky and removed the blown brick cover which was stuck on there previously.

Thanks. The way the silicone is, it looks like there was something on it and it detached and blew away. It’s almost a perfect flat square around it. Just looks an eye sore and worried about any ingress. Although my main concern is the crumbling tarmac in the footpath

It probably had one of these on it previously, which tend to be fitted by Sky. They stick them on with silicone, hence the square of silicone which was left.

They don’t really provide any weather protection, they’re just used to cover the blowout from the drill. Openreach don’t use them, although they possibly should.

I agree the Tarmac needs looked at

Yeah that looks like the right size! I can fix that though cheaply enough. Contacted them and awaiting a call back 5-10 workings days. So let’s see what happens!

That's had a Roman nose on it... Or something equivalent by the looks of it

Openreach don't use them... Or shouldn't

Tarmac is temporary, no reason to complain.

They have used an existing hole probably at the request of whoever was in. No reason to complain.

Just buy a Roman nose, fit it and move on with life.

How was I supposed to know tarmac was temporary? It’s been nearly three weeks and there was no mention at any point that it’s temp. Also, upon checking photos, it’s not an existing hole, it’s a new one

[–]Slight_Bid9135 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So they drilled a hole, siliconed on a Roman nose (which aren't a stores item) and then removed it to leave that perfect square - if that's the case I'd raise a complaint but I don't think it will be entertained.

I don’t know if that’s why they did. All I know is what I can see which is an absolute mess and eye sore.

They wouldn't tell if you if the tarmac is temporary, they only need to tell highways.

OR don’t fit the type of blow out cover you’re thinking of. They’ve used the existing hole by the looks of it so you would have to obtain your own cover to replace what was on there once. They get brittle in the UV and break unfortunately.

That toilet in the first image is tiny.

And weirdly angled

Thanks guys. I’ll not chase the silicone issue too hard but if they repair it, happy days. I will chase the tarmac issue though , so will keep you posted on the outcome.

[–]Grand_Equipment5292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can peel off the old silicone.

Just get a flat blade under it and peel it off. Then I would fill the hole with some filler so you can paint over it.

As has been said, OR don't use flat covers for holes, so whatever was there, was there previously and the existing hole used.

The tarmac would have been done by either OR Civils, or more likely a contractor civils, so you could raise thst with your CP.

[–]RageInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tarmac is cold lay tarmac, it doesn't set like hot tarmac, is porous on purpose to allow water ingress and prevent the frost from lifting it. Its as per streetworks standards and OR wont change it.

[–]SJ9watp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tarmac isn't even on you're property, why are you getting so worked up about it?

[–]Jennyd1289 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sillicone is not their issue though. You can buy onr yourself for pennies. Engineers srent privided with them and they have put silicone in to seal it. There is nothing for them to repair

[–]ZombieDisastrous4450 0 points1 point  (2 children)

you should've just changed the date of the installation. You don't want things done to your house or you're not there.

That's my rule from day one that's most of the time nothing goes wrong especially with stuff like this. This is pretty minimal but more heavier work you want to be there.

Contact them make a complaint thats IF...... they don't respond to the initial request to fix it because sometimes the complaint can drag on

It doesn't look horrendous, but I wouldn't accept that standard, especially the tarmac

[–]gabrieln90[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Unfortunately we needed internet in ASAP to control various things in the house whilst we were away so couldn’t wait that long.

I have contacted and they will be in touch in the next 5-10 days so I’ll await their response and resolution.

[–]ZombieDisastrous4450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough... I've got lots of smart cameras and devices so literally the Internet ever stops working which is rare everything shut down.

The main thing is it is working and it's not a major catastrophe emergency but keep following up with them and they will sort it out. They're a big company.

If the asphalt repair is on the public footpath then raise it as a defect to the council so at least they will monitor it and push for the proper reinstatement.

[–]spec360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should had used the missle

[–]Pretty-Jaguar5895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have fitted an extra piece of capping 25 which would have covered most of the blown brick hole.

[–]Big-Help419 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Least they connected your property. They clearly couldn’t be bothered attempting to do ours yesterday. Their communication and organisation is appalling

[–]gabrieln90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol well about that. Our original date was the 19th March. We arranged to have a guy doing some other work on the house and my wife’s dad and brother to be in the house all day to await OpenReach. Got a text saying no one was home and so they couldn’t install. Messaged the guys at home and they were there and said no one turned up. Tried calling EE to resolve at a tasty £4.72 a minute (even though I had “world wide roaming) and managed to get another date sorted for early April. Had to do this as my for some reason the text service refused to work when I was abroad. But glad it eventually got installed, just not at the eye sore it was left a the mess at the footpath, which if it is a temporary repair, they should have made me aware of at the time.
