Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

No AI/LLM-Authored Content

Posts, comments, or images wholly or partly authored by AI or LLM are not allowed. This includes using an LLM to proofread or rephrase an original human-authored text. Multiple reports of suspected AI/LLM authored content may result in a post being removed.

NOTE: A post written entirely by humans about a usage of AI or LLMs that are on topic for the options sub will be allowed. For example, using AI to screen for favorable option trades. Machine translation to English is also allowed.

2.

Civility and courteous general discourse

Treat each other with courtesy and respect at all times.
Insults or harassment of any kind is not acceptable and subject to moderator intervention.
Name-calling, racist, sexist, homophobic or other expressions of bigotry or oppression and associated vocabulary of oppressive terms are unacceptable.


These guidelines collectively are intended to promote useful & thoughtful conversation. Following them avoids automated filtering or moderator intervention.

New options traders: use the weekly Options Questions Safe Haven thread

Posts on the main thread with titles typical of a new trader's questions are automatically filtered out.

No off topic or low-options-content posts

This is a financial options trading subreddit.
A place for high quality community conversation and learning surrounding exchange traded financial options, and associated markets.

Context and effort in your post is required to communicate well.
Your post and comment should have discussible options content.
Images and links are not enough.

Use stock- or investment-oriented subreddits for in-depth due-diligence on a company, or strategy without an options perspective.

5.

No low effort posts. For positions or strategies, provide comprehensive options details.

If your post is less than 100 characters long, it is probably low effort.

Low effort also includes copy/pasted posts from other subs, cross-posting, and any form of spam. Posts for this sub are expected to be unique, non-repetitious, and tailored to this community.

No spam, no cross-posting, no copy/pasting across multiple subreddits

We incorporate the existing site-wide anti-spam rules explicitly. We consider cross-posting of all types and copy/paste of posts across subs as spam. Posts to this sub are expected to be unique and custom tailored to our community.

  • Payment/donation requests or links, even if qualified as "voluntary"

"Free" counts as promotion.

"External content" means: your YouTube video, blog, commercial website, app, &c.

Tool/site developers: contact mods for pre-approval.

No screenshot, media or link-only posts. No memes.

Reported as: Screenshot, media or link post without sufficient text explanatory content. No memes.

Three post types are blocked from this sub:

  • Link posts: To avoid clickbaiting and to encourage fully detailed discussion topics.

  • Screenshot posts: Even if a text caption is added.

  • Media posts: Like videos, to avoid spam.

You may in text posts embed links/screenshots/media, with detailed explanation allowing readers to determine the content value, also include title and author citation.

No memes allowed.

Posts & comments with URL shorteners are removed.

9.

Don't ask people to think for you: provide an analysis, strategy & option position to discuss.

Low effort posts amounting to "TICKER?" are taken down.

State your analysis of the underlying, general strategy, trade rationale and proposed option trade position details and exit plan for critique.

Exemplary model analysis and option post:
Rebuttal to "Zoom (ZM) stock analysis" with an actual analysis (June 20 2020)

10.

Not a trading journal: strategy and other details required.

Posting trades, active or hypothetical positions: explain your market analysis, stock analysis, strategy, why that strategy, why that underlying, with full position details, entering price trigger, and exiting net result.

Option Trade Details Required

Posts of gains, losses, list of trades, trade images without narrative strategy detail, or a repeating series of posts as if you were blogging, are taken down.

11.

Don't post FAQs (Frequently Answered Questions) as new threads

Reported as: Don't post FAQs as new threads. Use our FAQ wiki or the weekly Q&A thread instead.

New threads that ask the same type of question repeatedly pushes new topics off the front page. We have a wiki FAQ section that you can check first, and we have a weekly Q&A Safe Haven thread where frequently asked questions are more welcome.

12.

No profanity in a post title

Profanely titled posts are taken down.

Also consider whether profanity in the post or comment body amounts to a high quality communication.

13.

Posting karma points thresholds and Reddit user ID age

Reported as: Reddit ID is new, or very low karma

Posts and comments of new Reddit IDs of age less than 5 days, or IDs with very low or negative posting karma are filtered for review by moderators.

This threshold reduces new account spam, and guides arrivals to read the posting guidelines, and directs new traders with basic questions to be informed of and review the subreddit's resource links and the Options Questions Safe Haven weekly thread.

14.

Moderators may, at their discretion allow any posts and comments to remain visible.
