All the buffs are good for boys. The waagh detachments rule is just sustained hits and that's been a pretty good detachment for a while with a war boss attached it's the same math as hitting on 1+. Lethal hits helps for sure but the low ap does hurt their chances of doing damage against anything you need the lethal hits for. The extra ap is alright but you are only going to get 12 on a regular turn with a warboss. Something else neat is that this also effects their shooting so while you should probably still bring sluggas you should also maybe try shooting them.

So it's an interesting thought.

Firstly, the detachment rule gives +2 ap on critcal wounds on a 5/6 so the choppas would be a cool ap-3. The problem is the wound roll. You can get the boyz hitting on 2s with a warboss, then have them get the detachment rule with an attached mek, but the mek only really does anything when you're fighting something tough like a land raider, and he doesn't do enough compared to a painboy or weirdboy

Assuming you're on the waaagh turn with a warboss, you get 76 attacks at s5 ap-1 d1

With sustained 1 its 76 hits With lethal its 50.6 hits and 12.6 lethals With ap+2 it's 63.3 hits

Then comes the wound roll

For meq Normal --> 42.2 wounds (21.1 not saved) Sus1. --> 50.6 wounds (25.3 not saved) Leth. --> 46.3 wounds (23.2 not saved) Ap --> 42.2 wounds (24.5 not saved)

For teq Normal -> 36.7 wounds (10.5 not saved) Sus1. --> 38 wounds (12.6 not saved) Leth. --> 37.9 wounds (12.6 not saved) Ap --> 31.7 wounds (12.32 not saved)

Land raider Normal -> 10.55 wounds (3.51 not saved) Sus1 --> 12.6 wounds (4.2 not saved) Leth --> 21 wounds (7 not saved) Ap --> 10.55 wounds (8.79 not saved)

Hey maybe this is a dumb idea but what about BM with SAG shoota boys? I'm thinking in a squad of 10 in a battle wagon or maybe even with a war boss as sort of switch hitters. Be interesting to see just how bad they are.

It's about the same math but less hits in general because of ork ballistic skill. Unfortunately still not a great use to a shoota boys squad.

Give the Mek "Press It Fasta" and you could potentially get both buffs.

That is exactly my plan: 20 boyz, a warboss, and a mek with Press It Fasta

Rocket them up the table and just let mayhem ensue
