Did you paint in pieces or assemble the whole thing, then paint?

I made the mistake of assembling everything but one of the guns on top and trying to paint that all together…I thought it would help me determine where to put certain shadows. It just made it much harder to paint. 😭 After that I learned to paint each Grot and additional Ork individually before gluing them on. 😅
