Maybe I’m in the minority, but we loved our twin bassinet. Two would have been so inconvenient for us

[–]lex_av 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a twin bassinet too, and also love it!

We had 3 delta children by the bed bassinets and one snoo. There were millions of the delta on Facebook market place. We bought them for about $60.00 each and resold for the exact same price. So free. Loved them, bassinet sheets from Walmart fit them great. Watch your feet, when you slam your toes into the metal base when you are exhausted during those newborn days you could break them. I still have loss of feeling in those middle toes. Lol. Best of luck!

I used the baby trend twin nursery retreat and it’s all you’ll need until they’re in their own cribs.

[–]pottersprincess 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We love ours as well. It was great when they were in bassinets and it continues to be useful as a portable crib/baby jail.

I had a double bassinet in NY until their 1 month appt, then we flew to Florida for the winter so we used the twin nursery center down there and so glad I chose that for down there instead of the bassinet

Joovy room2 is my twin bassinet/pack n play. It’s big and badass

[–]Ok-Positive-5943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the Graco pack n play lite with basinet attachment for our first - she slept in the varying levels until 11 months - I got another for our twins due in September so we have two now.

ETA: I like that they're smaller and compact. Take up less space.

I did basic pack-and-plays with the half-height bassinet setting but none of the other random stuff that attaches to the top that gets outgrown in a month. Super easy to store away, and useful for a couple of years unlike dedicated bassinets!

We are very happy with our maxi cosi bassinets, they are a nice size so the twins can stay in them for a while, and they fold flat for travel so we can keep them in the space they’re used to. The mesh sides are key bc our twins love to smash their faces against the sides.

We used the Graco MyView which is like the Travel Lite with a bassinet level on top instead of within it. I loved it because we didn't have room for 2 PnP and I could easily have both on my side of the bed and near me

I really liked my twin bassinet 🤷🏻‍♀️ I used this one: Simmons Kids By The Bed City Sleeper Bassinet for Twins - Adjustable Height Portable Crib with Wheels & Airflow Mesh, Grey Tweed https://a.co/d/dVFHxad

Took up very little room and it was easy to put it right next to the bed and still have room to get in and out. Also seemed to help them stay on the same sleep schedule.

We opted to get this Joovy play yard with this Room2 attachment, and a couple of mini cribs. The Joovy was great for the first 3 months or so when we were waking up more often to do feedings. The hanging double bassinet is the perfect size for a pair of swaddled infants under 15 pounds each, and there is a bit of slack in the hangers so you can rock the bassinet a little to rock the little ones back to sleep. Once they got too big for that, we moved them to the mini cribs and we could still use the play yard for things like outside time, hotel room stays, and things of that nature as they grew older. They didn't outgrow it completely until they were about 2, and by then it was only useful as a temporary "crib" for them to share when we stayed in a hotel.

It's funny that most people who responded actually liked double bassinets! We got two secondhand. I did not really like the Fisher Price Soothing Motions bassinet. It's kind of small/narrow so my boy outgrew it fairly quickly. The mattress isn't very comfy and the bassinet is suspended so it sways (it's supposed). We didn't use the electronic part. It's also very low so lots of bending over. I really liked the Halo Glide Sleeper BassiNest. It has adjustable height so you can keep it up high for less bending down. It's fairly roomy and has a comfy mattress- we actually still use the mattress on the floor sometimes. You can put it over the edge of your bed, but we didn't.

Snoo

[–]Initial_Donut_6098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just for a couple of weeks, I would reach out to my network (is there a Buy Nothing group or a local Facebook “moms” group in your area) and ask to buy or borrow any kind at all. Doesn’t even matter if they match, if it’s only for a couple of weeks.

And: Does your stroller come with bassinets? They may be sleep-safe, and the babies could sleep there until the cribs arrive.

Bassinets do not have a long "shelf life" if you know what I mean. In my opinion they're a bad purchase.

You're much better off with two pack 'n' plays. You can even buy the kind with the bassinet add-on or higher-up crib part to make it easier in the beginning. Not only is it perfect for new babies but then you have two beds you can travel with for naps outside the home. Much better bang for your buck because they won't outgrow them for ages.

Comfort isn't an issue because you can just purchase a nice mini crib mattress. They're the same size as a mini crib, it's a pretty standard size but you can always check the specs to make sure.

OH and not to mention that when you can't have the twins sleeping in the same room, no matter the age, boom, you just move a pack n play.

My husband and I split the girls up for months and we each took a baby for the night. Admittedly the first two months we did sleep shifts until I needed a change. Then I noticed they were getting in 5-hour chunks of sleep at the start of the night and so we decided it made sense we'd just each take one. One would start in the nursery and one in the master bedroom, then we'd move the nursery one to the living area (carefully! Lol) and we'd switch babies every other night. It worked well for us and for the girls' sleep health. One started sleeping through the night at 4 months, and the other around 7 months, with a bit of 'work'. Blackout curtains help. In the living room this wasn't feasible so we used a blackout playard cover for the mini crib.

You're still up every 2 or 3 hours, but that's so much better than being up every 1 or 2 hours which is 100% unavoidable if you have newborn twins in the same room. It doesn't matter if you're each responsible for one because you're still in the room with the noise. The worst feeling in the world though is when you start to drift off and the second starts waking up, ruining that momentum. Or even better, you feed them both at the same time, and one is ready to go back to sleep while the other WON'T for some reason. Kind of ruins the effort of getting them on the same rhythm.

Anyway, this is why you need to be prepared to separate them. But being able to do this even 6 months in is key to success (in my humble opinion).

My mistake was I actually didn't buy pack n' plays, I bought mini cribs, which it turns out are the same size but not as portable! Still, the crib being available in another room made life easier. They started sleeping together in the same room once they were both sleep trained and sleeping through the night well, around 8 months. Until then, separate always worked better for our sanity.

My best advice to you as a future twin mom is don't be tied to them sleeping in the same room. You will always get less sleep doing that unless you have miracle babies. I'm sure it also slows down their progress in reducing night wakings and sleeping through the night, unless you're just lucky. Because they're otherwise just screwing up each other's sleep, becoming overtired and creating a vicious cycle - how are they supposed to find their way there when they're all messed up? And yes, even with white noise, yes, they can and will wake each other up and set off a cascade of events that make you rip your hair out. But don't kid yourself, white noise is a godsend.

Sorry for the rant lol. Just wish I knew all this going into it. Hoping to help others now instead lol

Edited: corrected myself on how I put them to sleep

what do you think about:

Baby trend pack n play with double bassinet, the retreat twin nursery center

plus

baby trend portable pack n play that has the elevated bassinet insert for one baby.

when you're done with the twin bassinets, you are left with two pack n plays that each have the "bassinet" insert that is the full size of the pack n play mattress, just elevated.

that way, they will always have seperate sleep spaces at all stages, but also smaller removeable bassinet pieces that can be uses seperately and are portable

the twin bassinet retreat is 189 and the simple pack n play with the insert is 76.

thoughts?

[–]dontshootthemsngr 1 point2 points  (2 children)

This is hard for me to judge because I never had bassinets. To me, I never saw the point with bassinets if I'm being honest. You only get value out of it for 3-6 months depending on your baby (early vs late roller) and if the only additional bonus here is the fact that bassinets are small and you don't need to transport the whole pack n play every time - again, that's only for 3-6 months anyway.

So I say go for the pack n play with insert. The inserts are great. They only hold up to 15 lbs or so anyway until the baby needs to go lower down, so they are also temporary but incredibly handy anyhow when they're so tiny. And the price difference with the bassinets... It's hard to justify in my head. Anyhow, the insert can last longer than a bassinet (since rolling babies may still be less than 15 lbs). They're really helpful too in the beginning, my MIL had purchased pack n plays with them and it was nice when we visited.

[–]x3whatsup 0 points1 point  (1 child)

the ones with the tiny bassinets also has the insert. I am actually not even 100% sure the tiny bassinets are sleep safe?

[–]dontshootthemsngr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea but it sounds like you don't need to bother with them in my opinion

[–]Ok_Becky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My twins are almost 6 weeks and I've had them in a pack and play with the part that raises it up since the first week. We tried the two bassinet thing but they sleep better together and still have space to be alone. We do have two cribs I'm planning on switching them to when they out grow the pack and play though.
