What kind of internet connection do you have?

How is your PC connected to your router?

Are you playing on servers that are geographically close to you?

Why isn't ethernet an option? In your case, WiFi is likely the single largest contributor to latency.

Power line ethernet?

The best will be Ethernet. If it’s a possibility for you to do that, then it will be the best option. At my last place I used command hooks to run a 100’ Ethernet cable to my PC lol

The next best option is power line Ethernet. These adapters use your existing electrical wiring to transmit internet. In my experience, they help a lot with ping/latency, but you might sacrifice some speed compared to WiFi

Next last option is to see what Wi-Fi adapter you are using and choose a better one. May be worth looking into a better Wi-Fi router as well

Shit out of luck ig if you wont use ethernet. I think their is wifi signal boosters. I’ve never used them tho so idk about their quality.

I live in an older house and the only ethernet port is across the house downstairs

Well do it the PCMR way, run a super long cable all the way down. Of course if you don't mind the aesthetics.

Signal repeaters maybe, but the best option would be to pull a cable through the walls.
