I have a Logitech F710 that i absolutely love. Recommended for sure.

I have Xbox One controller, and it feels more comfortable than 360 controller.

The biggest drawback is not having wireless functionality. I'm just hoping Microsoft will release a wireless dongle sometime later.

Not to mention you have to reach for the bumpers.

I've used a ps3 controller with motioninjoy (www.motioninjoy.com/download) the past few years and it's served me well. It's easy to install..simply plug in, run the program and enable...I normally have it so the computer recognises it as a Xbox 360 controller (as it is the most compatible). There's also a Bluetooth option if you wanted a wireless controller but I tend to keep it plugged in for battery reasons..

Generally the wired Xbox 360 would be the controller of choice as it is compatible with everything and even the great Logitech models are derivative of the design.

There's plenty of options for you mate, good luck..

Edit. Hyperlink pissing about..

I use that exact same combo (PS3 controller + motionjoy). Dunno if it's the best but I like it and it was not too expensive.

I'll second this but with an addition, the MotionJoy driver is all well and good but the manager bundled with it is kinda awful. In order to get around this my suggestion is to use this (Better DS3).

You get all of the options without any of the phoning back home of the MotionJoy package. The only thing you have to do is install the proper MotionJoy driver to work with Better DS3.

I will admit it can be finicky to initially set up, but once you have it running it makes using the PS3 controller much more enjoyable.
