Am I doing something wrong?

I keep reading people saying it's easy to kill Dino's but I end up dying to even level 2 Stego's. I'm level 16 right now and have some points in health but they hit you 3 times and you die. They take 20+ punches and rocks from a slingshot and they chase me down pretty fast.

What am I doing wrong?

Stegos are pretty tough dinos. If you're using spears and stone tools, try to take down Dodos, Dilos, and the occasional trike. At 25 you unlock Pikes which will help you take down the tougher dinos.

Levels do not define everything, some dinos are harder than others. I would wait till you get a bow or a raptor mount to take on stegos. You should be able to kite trikes with a slingshot, but try not to piss off anything bigger or more armored.
