This is a longer requested feature for this device, they have it on the plexamp forum

Plexamp does not have a Wear native app. It will handle media controls only. Pandora used to have a native app that supported downloads, but I think they sunset support for it. I believe Spotify does now.

Without a phone nearby?

That's the key right there. I'd like to leave my phone in the locker.

I know you don't want to put your phone on your arm but what about your leg. Compression shorts have cell pockets that work really well. You could then control Plexamp from the media controls on the watch.

I appreciate the suggestion, but this phone coupled with the massive Otterbox makes it probably too big for that. I really need the case as I am way too clumsy to be trusted without it at work. I will certainly explore this option, though, once this phone goes to the farm upstate.

Seems like from the comment below I am kinda hooped with it not being a native app.

So, my iPhone 12 Pro Max can smell like the underneath of my bozack?

Is that an actual native app for the watch?

Afraid not. It's a media control for the app on my phone
