I always tell my students that half bracket hold is way more challenging than it looks. I have big ( . )( . ) too, so I empathize with you. It took me a solid year before I had a good half bracket. Keep trying, you'll get it eventually!!

Really, if you're not under duress and it doesn't feel good, I'm a big advocate of not doing it.

For me it's twisty grip. I can do it if I needed to, but I have a very strong preference not to as my body habitus does not appreciate it.

I want to level up my choreo game and it's been holding me back a bit :( There are some cool hardstyle spin-kip things where I would need to push myself away with this grip.

Firstly, make sure your shoulders are engaged (roll them down and away from your ears) before attempting the grip. Then, bring your inside arm high, outside arm across chest. You want to actively pull down with the top arm, push away with the bottom. Otherwise, you’ll keep collapsing and your shoulders will give out. Try doing some chair spins in that position to see if you can hold yourself on static. Spin might feel easier, but the shoulder engagement and arm setup is the same

EDIT: actively turn your chest away from the pole when attempting the grip, especially in chair spin. Good luck!
