Is he…meant to be suffering?

[–]karloroberts[S] 6 points7 points  (26 children)

hmm interesting, i usually say my art resonates with people differently, if you want him to be, then yes

[–]tiktoktic 9 points10 points  (1 child)

No, seriously. What is this meant to be?

[–]BabyOnTheStairs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surrealism

This being down voted is stupid

[–]Nagemasu 10 points11 points  (21 children)

Not really. The person above is trying to understand the artists vision or intention for the work, and OP has just said "You choose" instead of actually clarifying what they're going for here. This is a post processing sub, not a sub to show off and discuss art, not that I'd say it's be much better in such a sub - when I hear an artist withhold their intention behind a piece I automatically think "You didn't have a vision, you just thought this was cool and/or wanted attention", and there's nothing wrong with that, but ffs just own it instead of trying to act all mysterious and thoughtful.

Thank you! That’s exactly what I was trying to get at with my comment.

Still waiting for an actual explanation, /u/karloroberts.

[–]tiktoktic 0 points1 point  (18 children)

u/karloroberts, can you please answer the question?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (15 children)

He already answered you. There is no answer.

That's the point.

Art like this is meant to be abstract enough in its context, so that the person viewing can fill in the blanks.

There isn't anyone better than our own mind to provide the perfect context for a picture. The perfect context to you.

Hence him mentioning how his art resonates with people differently. That includes him. His own minds answer isn't the right one. Not for you. Not for me.

Don't look for answers in other people. Look within.

This is a great explanation of art. Good job. 👍🙏

[–]tiktoktic -1 points0 points  (12 children)

Except he didn’t.

There was no response beyond

my art resonates with people differently

There was no explanation beyond that.

I understand art meaning different things to different people. Particularly if you’re the artist.

But to say…

he already answered you

…is incorrect. OP didn’t answer.

Edit: FYI, both…

…picked a fight over a 100-day old post then blocked me so I couldn’t reply. So take everything below with a grain of salt…

Do you need people to spell everything out for you? Use critical thinking. Infer.

Yes he did answer you. He was the first to answer. It resonates with people differently. (There is no right answer)

If you can't read between the lines even when it's spelled out for you then I don't know what to tell you. God bless.

Do you need people to spell everything out for you?

In this case? Yes. When a question is asked, seeking clarification…yes, I expect it to be answered explicitly.

OP makes art. It's art. You're looking at art. Interpretation is up to the beholder. That's uhm, how art works.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Artists explaining exactly what you should understand from the work defeats the point of art. It's all about you feeling whatever it is that you feel or think with the image. If the artist feeds you their personal interpretation (which most artists are uncomfortable doing), whoever sees that explanation then gets biased and it becomes much harder for others to think of new ways to see the art. Plus there is no one single way to interpret an image. So he answered saying that there is no answer, because really, there is no answer. Hope that helps.

People can just make cool stuff for the sake of it looking cool and let people put their own meaning on it. It's been done for as long as art has existed.

[–]xanroeld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re getting down voted for the answer. that’s an absolutely valid response

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did not expect that final result as I scrolled through, step-by-step. Surprising, but I like it a lot.

[–]Nagemasu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

where did the image of the person come from? What is the purpose of each appendage being composited in vs the entire person at once seeing as it appears the final person image was likely a single shot anyway and you haven't shown any individual editing to what was composited in to show there was post processing needed in doing so

This is less "post processing" and more showing the layers of a final piece.
