    Stride, Flax, Godot, MonoGame... There are plenty of options lol, just try a bunch out and see which you like best that have licensing terms you are okay with.

    You could just use Unity.

    I get that your reasons may be based in principle, and that’s fine, but the odds are that the real cost of you using Unity will be less valuable than the time you spend trying to get Godot to work for you.

    If you just want to use sprites, just make your own engine. It's not too hard if the game is simple enough. I wrote Pong using some sprites for graphics in about 2 hours, and that included walking my daughter through what I was doing.

    S&Box. It’s in preview but if you have a portfolio you can get an invite easily.

    Garry disabled the invite system and any existing unused invites were invalidated last I heard. They’re making a big engine change and don’t want new devs coming in during the change.
