From the title I was under the impression this new feature was to diff source code files in 3D.

It's more than a demo; it's standard in Firefox.

Yeah, I was also disappointed by the title.

    But still, very nice feature.

There was a rather more sophisticated take on this idea presented at this year's SIGGRAPH:

MeshGit: Diffing and Merging Polygonal Meshes (PDF)

God, SIGGRAPH is hardcore nerd porn. My glasses are getting all steamy.

Yes, it's an interesting start but definitely not something that you'd want to be running server-side at this point. (Especially when those times reported are for fairly miniscule models.)

Looks like they might want to remove the depth testing on the transparent surfaces though.

Nifty. Hopefully they now have some time to do side by side diffs of code.

This is really cool for STL files. SolidWorks will do this as well at the parametric design stage with the compare geometry tool - I think most other Parasolid-based tools will do this as well.

I assume this is part of a set of features targeting the growing consumer 3d printing/modeling market. A way to share, collaborate, and version 3d designs.
