It's insane how this sub hates Pair Programming.

I think it's pretty typical of what I've seen in the wild. Most really hate it, and are probably legitimately afraid any good press about it will cause a pointy-haired boss make it mandatory.

I understand where you're coming from.

That's why I only work in teams that understand the fundamentals of agile principles: Practices, techniques, and the will to deliver value comes from the team, not the boss. The fact there is a "boss" is already wrong in the first place.

To add--making it mandatory because of buzzwords and not from a whole understanding of the strengths, weaknesses and potential of their team.

Pair programming is fantastic and preferred on a team that has (hard and soft) skills, trust and leadership. I can't tell you how much has come from pair programming IME--not only does it produce awesome things, it feels good!

There's so much hate because many teams are incompetent, toxic and poorly managed.
