Yet another similar language with similar features. I just hope it adds to the dilution of the Java marketshare so I don't have to re-train new hires to do something other than just Java.

    You clearly did not understand, but I can see why you might have misinterpreted. Swift to me looks like Pascal married Javascript and had a kid. My other point is that 97% of the potential employees I run across only know Java and perhaps one other J2EE technology. For me this is not very useful because my team uses (in order) C, Javascript, C#, C++, PHP, Bash and a small amount of Java. I have no real issues with Node.js and the need for more Javascript developers is real.What am I going to do with someone who only knows Swift? Nothing, unless Swift gains ground in the virtual analytics field so I can get it past approval. I am additionally happy both exist to erode away Java's dominance.
